Effective field theory, past and future [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of 6th International Workshop on Chiral Dynamics — PoS(CD09), 2010
I reminisce about the early development of effective field theories of the strong interactions, comment briefly on some other applications of effective field theories, and then take up the idea that the Standard Model and General Relativity are the leading terms in an effective field theory.

Nearly critical superfluids in Keldysh-Schwinger formalism

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics
We examine the effective theory of critical dynamics near superfluid phase transitions in the framework of the Keldysh-Schwinger formalism. We focus on the sector capturing the dynamics of the complex order parameter and the conserved current ...

Lectures on Effective Field Theory [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
In these 4 lectures, I give a brief introduction to the principles of effective field theory and discuss their application via 3 examples: (i) the Standard Model as an effective theory; (ii) non-linear sigma models and the composite Higgs; (iii) the quantum field theory of fluids.

Field theory formulation of the Quantum Hall Effect [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 1994
We consider the quantum Hall effect in terms of an effective field theory formulation of the edge states, providing a natural common framework for the fractional and integral effects.

Impact of enhanced leaf model on dose calculation accuracy in single‐isocenter multitarget stereotactic radiosurgery treatments

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Single‐isocenter multitarget (SIMT) radiosurgery has become increasingly popular as advancement in planning and delivery systems have made this approach clinically viable. With targets varying in size and distance from isocenter, SIMT plans are highly complex with dynamic multileaf collimator (MLC) motion.

Power Counting For and Symmetries of the Effective Field Theory For NN Interactions [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 1999
The appropriate power counting for the effective field theory of NN interactions is reviewed. It is more subtle than in most effective field theories since in the limit that the S-wave NN scattering lengths go to infinity it is governed by a nontrivial fixed point.
