Effective Sample Size for Importance Sampling based on discrepancy measures
The Effective Sample Size (ESS) is an important measure of efficiency of Monte Carlo methods such as Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) and Importance Sampling (IS) techniques.

Surface Roughness and Effective Stick-Slip Motion [PDF]
The effect of random surface roughness on hydrodynamics of viscous incompressible liquid is discussed. Roughness-driven contributions to hydrodynamic flows, energy dissipation, and friction force are calculated in a wide range of parameters.

ABSTRACT Purpose Malignant rhabdoid tumor of the kidney (MRTK) is a rare, aggressive tumor seen in young children. The optimal timing of resection for locally advanced tumors is not well‐defined. The purpose of this study is to evaluate modern oncologic outcomes and the impact of surgical timing. Methods A multicenter retrospective review was performed

There are different measures for effect size to compare 2 means, The most common effect sizes are Cohen’s d, Hedges’ g and Glass’ delta3. I leave relative risk, odds ratios, correlation coefficients, etc., for another occasion because they are beyond the scope of this editorial and I prefer to introduce concepts slowly.

Sector and size effects on effective corporate taxation [PDF]
The current debate in corporate taxation is focussing on leveling the tax playing field within the European Union in order to allow companies incorporated in different countries to face the same competitive conditions.

Assessing the genetic diversity in small farm animal populations*
Genetic variation is vital for the populations to adapt to varying environments and to respond to artificial selection; therefore, any conservation and development scheme should start from assessing the state of variation in the population.

On the Effective Size of a Non-Weyl Graph
We show how to find the coefficient by the leading term of the resonance asymptotics using the method of pseudo orbit expansion for quantum graphs which do not obey the Weyl asymptotics.

Effect of sintering atmosphere on the pore-structure stability of cerium-doped nanostructured alumina [PDF]
Pore-structure stability of pure and Ce-doped alumina in air and argon atmospheres was studied using DTA, TGA, N2 ads./des. and XRD with a view to understand the importance of the ionic size of the dopant cation on the pore-structure stability of alumina.

MYCN Amplification in RB1‐Inactivated Retinoblastoma: Association With High‐Risk Features
ABSTRACT Background MYCN amplification occurs in a subset of retinoblastoma cases, both with and without RB1 inactivation. It has been suggested that retinoblastomas with MYCN amplification represent a distinct entity with more aggressive clinical behavior.

Estimating effective population size using RADseq: Effects of SNP selection and sample size
Effective population size (Ne) is a key parameter of population genetics. However, Ne remains challenging to estimate for natural populations as several factors are likely to bias estimates.
