On the Computation of Slab Effective Widths

Journal of Structural Engineering, 1985
An approximate closed‐form solution is presented for the computation of effective widths of floor slabs in laterally‐loaded multi‐story buildings. The resulting formula yields answers in good agreement with existing numerical techniques throughout the entire range of slab aspect ratios and column sizes found in practice.

Effective Width of Pedestrian Corridors

Journal of Transportation Engineering, 1984
Pedestrians walking in corridors tend to maintain a clearance from the walls and any stationary obstacles that they pass, thus, space within corridors is never fully utilized. A number of researchers have therefore suggested that an effective width reduction should be subtracted from the gross width to obtain an effective corridor for design purposes ...

Slit-Width Effects

Journal of the Optical Society of America, 1954
A general treatment is given of the effects of slit-widths upon emission lines, absorption lines, and continuous absorption spectra. The fundamental approximation is a triangular shaped slit function of base 2seff, where the effective slit-width seff is related to the geometrical slit-width sg as seff2=so2+sg2, so being a function of the frequency ...

Empirical Effective Width Formula

Journal of the Structural Division, 1976
The data basis for the effective width expression used in cold-formed steel design is analyzed statistically. Several plausible effective width formulas are studied. It is concluded that the effective width is not significantly different for most test data on plates, beams, and columns in steel (including cold-formed and stainless steel), with the ...

Effects of a pulse width on the quantum spectra

Physical Review A, 1995
A theoretical study is made of the absorption cross section by a finite width laser pulse for atoms or negative ions in external fields. A modified closed-orbit formula for the cross section is derived. It is shown that the finite width of the laser pulse reduces the contributions from the short closed orbits and completely eliminates the contributions

The Effect of Seal Width on Regenerator Effectiveness

Journal of Engineering for Gas Turbines and Power, 1993
The effect of axial conduction on regenerator effectiveness has been studied in the past under the assumption of zero seal width. The effect of axial conduction coupled with finite seal width is presented in this paper. A method for calculating effectiveness assuming axial conduction and finite seal width is presented.

Effective Flange Width in Torsion

ACI Journal Proceedings, 1971
AN EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION TO STUDY THE EFFECT OF FLANGE WIDTH ON THE TORQUE CAPACITY OF REINFORCED CONCRETE FLANGED BEAMS IS REPORTED. DATA PRESENTED HEREIN INDICATE THAT THE RECENT RECOMMENDATION OF ACI COMMITTEE 438 ON EFFECTIVE FLANGE WIDTH IS VERY MUCH ON THE CONSERVATIVE SIDE. /ACIJP/

Line width roughness effects on device performance: the role of the gate width design

SPIE Proceedings, 2010
The role of the gate width in the effects of Line Width Roughness (LWR) on transistor performance is investigated. Two mathematical results regarding the statistical nature of LWR are presented and discussed. Exploiting the implications of these results through a 2D modeling approach, we indicate that, for fixed LWR, transistors with large gate widths ...

Level Width Broaden Effect

Communications in Theoretical Physics, 2004
In fitting the double-differential measurements the level width broadening effect should be taken into account properly due to Heisenberg uncertainty. Besides level width broadening effect the energy resolution in the measurements is also needed in this procedure. In general, the traditional normal Gaussian expansion is employed.

Effect of footbath width on faecal contamination by cattle

Veterinary Record, 2012
DAILY or twice daily disinfectant foot bathing for the control of digital dermatitis and other infectious causes of lameness has, from our anecdotal experiences on farm, become widespread practice, and we believe it is an effective measure. If digital dermatitis is considered to be ‘mastitis of the foot’, then regular disinfection to prevent infection ...
