End effector with astronaut foot restraint [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
The combination of a foot restraint platform designed primarily for use by an astronaut being rigidly and permanently attached to an end effector which is suitable for attachment to the manipulator arm of a remote manipulating system is described.

Targeting the CBM complex causes Treg cells to prime tumours for immune checkpoint therapy. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Solid tumours are infiltrated by effector T cells with the potential to control or reject them, as well as by regulatory T (Treg) cells that restrict the function of effector T cells and thereby promote tumour growth1.

B cell mechanobiology in health and disease: emerging techniques and insights into therapeutic responses

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
B cells sense external mechanical forces and convert them into biochemical signals through mechanotransduction. Understanding how malignant B cells respond to physical stimuli represents a groundbreaking area of research. This review examines the key mechano‐related molecules and pathways in B lymphocytes, highlights the most relevant techniques to ...

Double lead spiral platen parallel jaw end effector [PDF]

open access: yes
The double lead spiral platen parallel jaw end effector is an extremely powerful, compact, and highly controllable end effector that represents a significant improvement in gripping force and efficiency over the LaRC Puma (LP) end effector.

Short chain fatty acids induce both effector and regulatory T cells by suppression of histone deacetylases and regulation of the mTOR-S6K pathway

open access: yesMucosal Immunology, 2014
Microbial metabolites, such as short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), are highly produced in the intestine and potentially regulate the immune system. We studied the function of SCFAs in the regulation of T-cell differentiation into effector and regulatory T ...

The thioredoxin‐like and one glutaredoxin domain are required to rescue the iron‐starvation phenotype of HeLa GLRX3 knock out cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Glutaredoxin (Grx) 3 proteins contain a thioredoxin domain and one to three class II Grx domains. These proteins play a crucial role in iron homeostasis in eukaryotic cells. In human Grx3, at least one of the two Grx domains, together with the thioredoxin domain, is essential for its function in iron metabolism.

Genomic analysis of 38 Legionella species identifies large and diverse effector repertoires

open access: yesNature Genetics, 2016
Infection by the human pathogen Legionella pneumophila relies on the translocation of ∼300 virulence proteins, termed effectors, which manipulate host cell processes. However, almost no information exists regarding effectors in other Legionella pathogens.

Evolutionary interplay between viruses and R‐loops

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Viruses interact with specialized nucleic acid structures called R‐loops to influence host transcription, epigenetic states, latency, and immune evasion. This Perspective examines the roles of R‐loops in viral replication, integration, and silencing, and how viruses co‐opt or avoid these structures.

Experimental study of trajectory planning and control of a high precision robot manipulator [PDF]

open access: yes
The kinematic and trajectory planning is presented for a 6 DOF end-effector whose design was based on the Stewart Platform mechanism. The end-effector was used as a testbed for studying robotic assembly of NASA hardware with passive compliance.

Phenotypic and Functional Separation of Memory and Effector Human CD8+ T Cells

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Medicine, 1997
Human CD8+ memory- and effector-type T cells are poorly defined. We show here that, next to a naive compartment, two discrete primed subpopulations can be found within the circulating human CD8+ T cell subset.
