THE EFFICACY CONDITION

open access: yesLegal Theory, 2019
ABSTRACT“A legal system exists,” Joseph Raz claims, “if and only if it is in force.” By this he means to suggest that the efficacy of law—that is, its capacity to control the population to which it applies—is necessary for its identity as such. Despite widespread recognition that efficacy is a condition of the existence of law, however, little time has

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

The commensal microbiome is associated with anti-PD-1 efficacy in metastatic melanoma patients

open access: yesScience, 2018
Good bacteria help fight cancer Resident gut bacteria can affect patient responses to cancer immunotherapy (see the Perspective by Jobin). Routy et al. show that antibiotic consumption is associated with poor response to immunotherapeutic PD-1 blockade ...

Peach Kernel Oil Modulates Lipid Metabolism Disorder in ApoEa CRISPR/Cas9 Gene‐Disrupted Zebrafish

open access: yesFood Frontiers
Due to today's unhealthy eating habits, such as high‐fat diets (HDs), people's bodies are in a sub‐healthy or unhealthy state, in which lipid disorders are a major cause of cardiovascular disease.

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

Dupilumab Efficacy and Safety in Moderate‐to‐Severe Uncontrolled Asthma

open access: yesNew England Journal of Medicine, 2018
BACKGROUND Dupilumab is a fully human anti–interleukin‐4 receptor α monoclonal antibody that blocks both interleukin‐4 and interleukin‐13 signaling. We assessed its efficacy and safety in patients with uncontrolled asthma.

Comparison of asthma phenotypes in OVA-induced mice challenged via inhaled and intranasal routes

open access: yesBMC Pulmonary Medicine, 2019
Background The respiratory system is exposed to various allergens via inhaled and intranasal routes. Murine models of allergic lung disease have been developed to clarify the mechanisms underlying inflammatory responses and evaluate the efficacy of novel

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.
