Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Efficient graph partitioning algorithms for collaborative grid workflow developer environments

open access: yes, 2010
Collaborative editing systems allow a group of users to view and edit a shared item from geographically dispersed sites. Consistency maintenance in the face of concurrent accesses to shared entities is one of the core issues in the design of these ...

Efficient implementation of a shifting algorithm

open access: yesDiscrete Applied Mathematics, 1985
An efficient implementation of the shifting algorithm ([BPS]) for min-max tree partitioning is given. The complexity is reduced from ORO+ kn) to ORM + logd) + n) where a tree of n vertices, radius of R edges, and maximum degree d is partitioned into k + 1 sub trees. The improvement is mainly due to the new junction tree data structure, which suggests a

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

On the performance of broadcast algorithms in interconnection networks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Broadcast Communication is among the most primitive collective capabilities of any message passing network. Broadcast algorithms for the mesh have been widely reported in the literature.

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Interactive Evolutionary Algorithms for Image Enhancement and Creation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Image enhancement and creation, particularly for aesthetic purposes, are tasks for which the use of interactive evolutionary algorithms would seem to be well suited.

Engineering shortest path algorithms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
In this paper, we report on our own experience in studying a fundamental problem on graphs: all pairs shortest paths. In particular, we discuss the interplay between theory and practice in engineering a simple variant of Dijkstra's shortest path ...
