Motion Scalability for Video Coding with Flexible Spatio-Temporal Decompositions

open access: yes, 2007
PhDThe research presented in this thesis aims to extend the scalability range of the wavelet-based video coding systems in order to achieve fully scalable coding with a wide range of available decoding points.

Impact of hyperspectral image coding on subpixel detection

open access: yes, 2022
S.432-436Four lossy hyperspectral image data coding schemes are compared with regard to their aptitude for subpixel detection use. The coding standards H.265/HEVC and JPEG2000 are investigated with and without a PCA preprocessing. As evaluation criteria,

An Efficient Multi-Resolution Chain Coding

open access: yesIEEE Access
A new compact encoding is presented of rasterized bi-level shapes at multiple resolutions. The encoder accepts the Freeman chain code in four directions (F4) at the input, and builds a multi-resolution code named MrCC. The encoding process constructs the

COFFE: A Code Efficiency Benchmark for Code Generation

open access: yesProceedings of the ACM on Software Engineering
Code generation has largely improved development efficiency in the era of large language models (LLMs). With the ability to follow instructions, current LLMs can be prompted to generate code solutions given detailed descriptions in natural language. Many research efforts are being devoted to improving the correctness of LLM-generated code, and many ...

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Space-variant picture coding

open access: yes, 2010
PhDSpace-variant picture coding techniques exploit the strong spatial non-uniformity of the human visual system in order to increase coding efficiency in terms of perceived quality per bit.

An Efficient Intra Skip Decision Algorithm for H.264/AVC Video Coding [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
In this study, we propose a simple, highly efficient intra skip decision algorithm to reduce the computational complexity of H.264/AVC coding. It utilizes information such as the best mode and the rate value of the RD cost function, which are all pre ...

Systematic Differences Between Perceptually Relevant Image Statistics of Brain MRI and Natural Images

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroinformatics, 2019
It is well-known that the human visual system is adapted to the statistical structure of natural scenes. Yet there are important classes of images – for example, medical images – that are not natural scenes, and therefore, that are expected to have ...

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...
