Toward an Efficient and Sustainable Use of Energy in Industries and Cities

open access: yesEnergies, 2019
Several countries have recently realized that the present development paradigm is not sustainable from an environmental and energy point of view. The growing awareness of the population regarding environmental issues is pushing governments worldwide more

Framework for Energy Performance Measurement of Residential Buildings Considering Occupants’ Energy Use Behavior

open access: yesEngineering Proceedings, 2023
Buildings’ contribution to global final energy use is about 30%, which makes them a primary focus for implementing energy-efficient measures. Building energy efficiency is an important consideration for residential buildings due to the significant ...

An investigation of the possible extent of the re-spending rebound effect in the sphere of consumer products [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
A key method used to reduce the environmental impact of a product is to make it more energy efficient. Previous studies have found that the potential benefits from improved efficiency are often at least partially negated by increased use of the product.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Efficient use of energy and resource through conservation and recovery in breweries

open access: yesZaštita Materijala, 2014
Breweries are relatively large scale plants and highly energy consuming industry. Basically, beer production is divided to three processes, Brewing, Fermentation and Packaging. Brewing requires high heat consumption, particularly the wort kettle consumes

Efficient use of solar energy

open access: yesInternational Journal of Energy, 2022
This paper is mainly about the use of solar energy in life to make a summary, and how to improve the utilization of these aspects to make suggestions. Sunlight transmits electricity to the earth all the time. If the total radiation power from sunlight to the earth is converted into power generation power, it can reach 1.77× kW, which is several hundred

The cost of virtue : reward as well as feedback are required to reduce user ICT power consumption [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This work was partly supported by the IU-AC project, funded by grant EP/J016756/1 from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).We show that students in a school lab environment will change their behaviour to be more energy ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...
