Kelvin Probe Force Microscopy in Bionanotechnology: Current Advances and Future Perspectives

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Kelvin probe force microscopy (KPFM) enables the nanoscale mapping of electrostatic surface potentials. While widely applied in materials science, its use in biological systems remains emerging. This review presents recent advances in KPFM applied to biological samples and provides a critical perspective on current limitations and future directions for

Elimination of Necking and Aspect Ratio Dependence in Uniaxial Actuators by Continuous Fiber Reinforcement

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A novel carbon fiber reinforcement for dielectric elastomer actuators enhances actuation force while decoupling electromechanical performance from the actuator's aspect ratio. Unlike conventional fiber reinforcements, it enables a uniform planar stretch state along the entire actuator.

An EMMS-based multi-fluid model (EFM) for heterogeneous gas–solid riser flows: Part II. An alternative formulation from dominant mechanisms

open access: yes, 2012
The gas-solid flow in circulating fluidized bed risers is characterized by the existence of two-phase structure with particle-rich dense phase and gas-rich dilute phase, but in traditional coarse grid simulation using two-fluid models, the constitutive ...

Whole-genome long-read sequencing to unveil Enterococcus antimicrobial resistance in dairy cattle farms exposed a widespread occurrence of Enterococcus lactis

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum
Enterococcus faecalis (Efs) and Enterococcus faecium (Efm) are major causes of multiresistant healthcare-associated or nosocomial infections. Efm has been traditionally divided into clades A (healthcare associated) and B (community associated) but clade ...

Superatom Distortion Induces Triferroicity and Spin Splitting in Two‐Dimensional Antiferromagnets

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The incorporation of superatoms into a 2D square lattice induces symmetry breaking, thereby enabling concurrent coupling among magnetism, ferroelectricity, and ferroelasticity. This strategy achieves triferroic behavior—characterized by spin‐split antiferromagnetic ground states—and offers a viable pathway toward energy‐efficient spintronic devices ...

Synchronization of Analog Neuron Circuits With Digital Memristive Synapses: An Hybrid Approach

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
An hybrid circuit mimicking neural units coupled using memristive synapses is introduced. The analog neurons provide flexibility and robustness, and the digital memristive coupling guarantees the full reconfigurability of the interconnection. The onset of a synchronized spiking behavior in two circuits mimicking the Izhikevich neuron is discussed from ...

Improving the EFMs quality by augmenting their representativeness in LP methods [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Systems Biology, 2018
Although cellular metabolism has been widely studied, its fully comprehension is still a challenge. A main tool for this study is the analysis of meaningful pieces of knowledge called modes and, in particular, specially interesting classes of modes such as pathways and Elementary Flux Modes (EFMs).
