Indirect plant defense may provide economically important pest suppression in sorghum

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Laboratory measures of sorghum direct and indirect plant resistance traits aligned with natural enemy recruitment and pest suppression in the field. Abstract BACKGROUND A promising strategy to optimize biological control of insect pests is selecting crop varieties with indirect defense traits.

Olfactory preference in chemical host plant recognition by male and female click beetles and its implications for pest management

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Click beetle (Elateridae) olfactory preferences for plant volatiles, including those released by damaged plants, remain poorly understood. Olfactometer and electroantennography experiments revealed sex‐ and plant species‐specific olfactory preferences of Agriotes sputator beetles, with maturity influencing female responses.

Transcriptome-Based Identification of Highly Similar Odorant-Binding Proteins among Neotropical Stink Bugs and Their Egg Parasitoid

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Olfaction plays a fundamental role in insect survival through resource location and intra and interspecific communications. We used RNA-Seq to analyze transcriptomes for odorant-binding proteins (OBPs) from major stink bug pest species in Brazil ...

Biological control of taro scarab beetle (Papuanauninodis Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) instars via Scoliid and Voria Tachinidae parasitoid wasps [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Scoliid and Voria Tachinidae parasitoid wasps are shown to be able to control the population of the Taro Scarab beetle (Papuanauninodis, Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) larvae using a newly created continuous-time simulation model based on non-linear ordinary ...

Modeling parasitoid development: climate change impacts on Telenomus remus (Nixon) and Trichogramma foersteri (Takahashi) in southern Brazil

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Phenological models revealed temperature‐driven development variability in Telenomus remus and Trichogramma foersteri, highlighting potential impacts of climate change on their biological control efficacy in warmer and colder regions. Abstract BACKGROUND The egg parasitoids Telenomus remus (Nixon) and Trichogramma foersteri (Takahashi) were recently ...

Taxonomic and Functional Structure of Benthic and Terrestrial Invertebrates During Wet and Dry Phases of an Intermittent River Within Central Italy

open access: yesRiver Research and Applications, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Temporary rivers and streams are characterized by flow cessation and support high biodiversity of both aquatic and terrestrial species. In this study, we analyzed biological and ecological traits of benthic invertebrates to assess the ecological resilience and resistance of an intermittent river in Central Italy.

Y a-t-il élimination d'Eupelmus orientalis Crawford par Eupelmus vuilleti Crawford (Hymenoptera : Eupelmidae) des systèmes de stockage du niébé (Vigna unguiculata Walp) ? [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales de la Soci\'et\'e Entomologique de France 43, 2 (01/06/2007) 139-144, 2007
Ni\'eb\'e is a food leguminous plant cultivated in tropical Africa for its seeds rich in proteins. The main problem setted by its production is the conservation of harvests. In the fields as in the stocks, the seeds are destroyed by pests (bruchids). These bruchids are always associated with several entomophagous species of hymenoptera.
