Facultative hyperparasitism by the potential biological control agent Aptesis nigrocincta (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae)

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology, 2003
This study investigated whether Lathrolestes ensator, a parasitoid released as a biological control agent against the European apple sawfly in Canada, is successfully attacked by the cocoon parasitoid A.nigrocincta.

Cannibalism in Buchananiella whitei (Hemiptera: Anthocoridae) and its intraguild interactions with seven predatory mites (Acari: Phytoseiidae & Laelapidae)

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Extraguild prey reduces cannibalism and intraguild predation in Buchananiella whitei, while first‐instar nymphs dominate most predatory mites, with outcomes affected by body size and behavioral traits. Abstract BACKGROUND Cannibalism and intraguild predation (IGP) are common interactions among predators that can influence the effectiveness of ...

Presence of polydnavirus transcripts in an egg-larval parasitoid and its lepidopterous host

open access: yes, 1999
The parasitoid Chelonus inanitus (Braconidae, Hymenoptera) oviposits into eggs of Spodoptera littoralis (Noctuidae, Lepidoptera) and, along with the egg, also injects polydnaviruses and venom, which are prerequisites for successful parasitoid development.

The European honey buzzard (Pernis apivorus) as an ally for the control of the invasive yellow‐legged hornet (Vespa velutina nigrithorax)

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 81, Issue 4, Page 2237-2247, April 2025.
The predatory effect of the honey‐buzzard affects the reproductive performance of Asian‐hornet colonies, decreasing the density of workers over distance and time. The foraging distances of the honey‐buzzard concentrates within the first 2000 m from nest, which supports the results observed.

The composition of the egg-parasitoid guild of the golden egg bug, Phyllomorpha laciniata (Heteroptera: Coreidae), in Spain

open access: yes, 2012
The golden egg bug (Phyllomorpha laciniata (Villers)) is a phytophagous insect with an unusual reproductive system. Females use the bodies of conspecifics, both males and females, as oviposition substrates.

Eupelmus (Eupelmus) urozonus Dalman (Hymenoptera: Eupelmidae) - a new egg parasitoid of Thaumetopoea pityocampa (Denis & Schiffermüller) (Lepidoptera: Notodontidae) in Bulgaria

open access: yesHistoria Naturalis Bulgarica
Based on samples collected in 2017 and 2024, Eupelmus (Eupelmus) urozonus (Hymenoptera: Eupelmidae) is recorded as a new egg parasitoid of Thaumetopoea pityocampa (Lepidoptera: Notodontidae) in Bulgaria. Seven male specimens of E.

Effects of timed LED regimes on tomato plant traits, performance of two‐spotted spider mites, and predatory mites (Phytoseiulus persimilis)

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 81, Issue 4, Page 2300-2311, April 2025.
Light‐emitting diode (LED)‐based treatments for enhancing crop production and pest management have primarily focused on continuous treatments. This study, using Tetranychus urticae and Phytoseiulus persimilis, demonstrates that the timing of LED supplementation is crucial for designing integrated pest management strategies that improve both plant ...

Keanekaragaman spesies parasitoid telur Helicoverpa armigera (Hübner) pada sistem tanam monokultur dan polikultur kapas

open access: yesJurnal Entomologi Indonesia, 2017
Polyculture system is one of techniques in pest management. In Indonesia, cotton is always intercropped with second food crops such as maize, soybean, mungbean or peanut. This research was aimed to evaluate the effect of culture system, i.e.

Understanding biological control function and trophic interaction dynamics of an artificially released predatory bug by DNA metabarcoding

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
This study investigated the dietary composition of Sycanus bifidus, a generalist predator of the assassin bug that is artificially released into citrus orchards, and uncovered its trophic structure across various pest species using metabarcoding‐based molecular gut content analysis.
