Searching for native egg-parasitoids of the invasive alien species Halyomorpha halys Stål (Heteroptera, Pentatomidae) in southern Europe [PDF]
Halyomorpha halys is an invasive species, originating from East Asia, which was accidentally introduced in some areas of North America and Europe, where severe damages to different vegetable crops and fruit plants were recorded.

Reduced fertilization regimes could boost biocontrol service without reducing crop yield
Fertilization level influences pest control effectiveness in tomato crops. High fertilization increases plant growth and aphid density but reduces the performance of the parasitoid Aphidius ervi. In contrast, the predator Adalia bipunctata maintains consistent aphid suppression regardless of fertilization regime.

The Australian giant wood moth (Endoxyla cinereus) feeds within the galls of scale insects (Apiomorpha) before transitioning into its wood‐boring eucalypt larval phase. This transitionary phase may be key to its multi‐year development, at the end of which it can produce over 100 000 eggs.

Pink bollworm, P. gossypiella, is a main pest of cotton that causes boll damage up to 70%. Recommended IPM has not effectively control this pest. The use of parasitoids of this pest is one of strategy to manage this pest population as using chemical ...

Offspring Defensive Investment Covaries With Brood Value in a Female Cobweb Spider
We performed a thorough field investigation on the web architectures of Campanicola campanulata to research its cobweb architecture variation under the condition of whether it carried egg sacs, in order to test the theory of its brood value. Our results demonstrate that retreat construction in female cobweb spiders is modulated by brood value.

The persistence and health of ash populations were characterized in post‐outbreak forests near the epicentre of the emerald ash borer (EAB) invasion in North America. Regenerating ash remained abundant, but densities of understory ash were higher in wetlands (hydric), while ash remained at the seedling stage in riparian (mesic) and upland (xeric ...

Bioecology parameters of the endemic Psychidae Deborrea malgassa, the main pest of apple trees in Madagascar. Spatiotemporal dynamics of Deborrea malgassa, with a peak infestation between May and August. Proposed targeted prophylaxis techniques associated with other agroecological principles will be key to reducing the vulnerability of apple orchards ...

Foraging behavior of egg parasitoids exploiting chemical information [PDF]
Female parasitic wasps seek hosts for their offspring often in a dynamic environment. Foraging egg parasitoids rely on a variety of chemical cues originating from the adult host, host products, or the host plant rather than from the attacked host stage ...

Larval character evolution in Holometabola (Insecta)
Abstract Larvae, a novel type of immature stage, are a crucial innovation of the Holometabola. Larval features therefore provide key evidence for reconstructing evolutionary transformations in this megadiverse group. Here we present the first formal reconstruction of larval character evolution, using maximum parsimony and Bayesian ancestral‐state ...
