Evaluating Bottom‐Up Effects of Cruciferous Cultivars to Optimise Mass‐Rearing and Fitness of the Parasitoid Diadegma insulare

open access: yesJournal of Applied Entomology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella (L.) (Plutellidae: Lepidoptera), is one of the major pests of cruciferous vegetables. To control this notorious pest, the caterpillar parasitoid Diadegma insulare (Cresson) (Ichneumonidae: Hymenoptera) is the most used biocontrol agent. Efficient mass‐rearing of D.

Garlic‐Derived Behavioural Deterrents: Diallyl Disulfide and TrpA1‐Mediated Suppression of Insect Reproduction

open access: yesModern Agriculture, Volume 4, Issue 2, December 2026.
Garlic‐derived diallyl disulfide acts as a behavioural deterrent that suppresses insect mating and oviposition through sensory pathways. The compound is detected through gustatory mechanisms involving the transient receptor potential A1 (TrpA1) channel and neural responses.

Geographical proliferation of ongoing novel host use by the herbivorous ladybird beetle Henosepilachna vigintioctopunctata (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae)

open access: yesEntomological Science, Volume 29, Issue 4, December 2026.
The geographical extent of occurrence of the Solanaceae‐feeding Henosepilachna vigintioctopunctata on the novel fabaceous host Centrosema molle and the ability of larvae from several beetle populations to develop on C. molle were investigated to depict the incipient phase in the speciation continuum of herbivorous ladybird beetles.

The shared benefits of fallen fruits: A novel mechanism stabilizing a nursery pollination mutualism between Sambucus and kateretid beetles

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, Volume 8, Issue 6, Page 1930-1942, November 2026.
Understanding how cooperative interactions remain stable matters for biodiversity because many plants rely on specialist insects that can also impose reproductive costs. We studied the interaction between Sambucus sieboldiana and seed‐consuming Heterhelus beetles through detailed field observations and pollination experiments.

SYN‐A, a naturally derived synergist, restores pyrethroid efficacy against cabbage stem flea beetle but negatively impacts its parasitoid Microctonus brassicae

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 82, Issue 11, Page 10637-10647, November 2026.
SYN‐A, a naturally derived synergist, inhibited key metabolic pathways associated with pyrethroid insecticide resistance in cabbage stem flea beetle (CSFB) and its parasitoid Microctonus brassicae. SYN‐A restored pyrethroid efficacy against resistant CSFB allowing up to 80% reduction in application rates.

Intercropping with legumes can reduce insect pest pressure but does not increase yield in winter oilseed rape (Brassica napus L.)

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 82, Issue 11, Page 10705-10715, November 2026.
Intercropping winter oilseed rape with spring faba bean reduced cabbage stem flea beetle and pollen beetle damage but also reduced crop yield. Sowing the intercrop simultaneously with winter oilseed rape was essential to maximize crop protection against cabbage stem flea beetles. Abstract BACKGROUND Winter oilseed rape (WOSR, Brassica napus) is a major

Improved impact from the use of beneficial natural enemy species in Australian canola systems: challenges and required tools

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 82, Issue 11, Page 10540-10550, November 2026.
In canola production systems in Australia, practices for the use of beneficials (arthropod predators and parasitoids) as part of an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategy, have not been widely adopted. We outline how canola growers and their advisors can be supported with incremental steps, from passive to active management, to help shift them from ...
