We used automated activity monitors to examine how light‐emitting diode illumination affects the daily locomotor activity of the parasitoid biocontrol agent Aphidius matricariae. We compared 4‐ to 20 h broad‐spectrum white (BSW) photoperiods, and 12 h BSW photoperiods extended with an additional 6 h of red‐blue, red‐green‐blue, or BSW light, or no ...

Hyperspectral proximal sensing was used to characterize the life stages and physiological responses of Diatraea saccharalis and to detect parasitism by Cotesia flavipes. Distinct spectral signatures differentiated eggs, larval instars, pupae, and adults, as well as live, dead, and parasitized larvae.

Top‐Down and Bottom‐Up Effects on Insect Herbivores Under Global Change—A Meta‐Analysis
We conducted a meta‐analysis of 246 experimental papers and 18 global change stressors to evaluate the effect of global change on insect herbivores both directly and indirectly through bottom‐up and top‐down effects. We found that while bottom‐up effects could either be strengthened or weakened, top‐down effects were mainly strengthened, and most ...

Floral resource strips within apple orchards increased parasitoid abundance and influenced community composition, enhancing local biodiversity in the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve's transition zone. Ruderal and natural fynbos habitats supported higher parasitoid richness and abundance, emphasising the importance of conserving semi‐natural habitats ...

In a given number of samples, grassland sward islets contain more species of arthropods than the surrounding sward. When corrected for abundance, there is no difference in species richness, suggesting that the effect of islets might purely be to concentrate arthropods. The community structure differences indicated by non‐metric multidimensional scaling

Feeding Preference and Foraging Behaviour of Eriopis connexa on Two Aphid Species
ABSTRACT Aphids are phloem‐feeding insects that cause both direct and indirect damage to crops, reducing agricultural productivity. Among the available pest control strategies, biological control using natural enemies is a sustainable and effective approach. The ladybird Eriopis connexa (Germar, 1824) is a generalist predator known for its voracity and

ABSTRACT Maize (Zea mays L.) is a major annual crop cultivated worldwide. In the Americas, the corn leafhopper Dalbulus maidis (DeLong) (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae) is a key pest of this crop, causing direct damage to plants through phloem feeding and indirect damage by transmitting phytopathogens.

ABSTRACT Longitudinal microbial interactions within a host are challenging to study, leading to a focus on constructed microbial communities in vitro settings. Here, we take advantage of a naturally defined microbial community within a spider host to study how elevated temperatures influence microbial dynamics and phenotypes across host generations ...
