Thin Film Biocomposite Membrane for Forward Osmosis Supported by Eggshell Membrane

open access: yesMembranes, 2022
There is a general drive to adopt highly porous and less tortuous supports for forward osmosis (FO) membranes to reduce internal concentration polarization (ICP), which regulates the osmotic water permeation.

Tensile Strength of the Eggshell Membranes

open access: yesActa Universitatis Agriculturae et Silviculturae Mendelianae Brunensis, 2016
The mechanical behaviour of eggshell membranes under tensile loading has been studied. Samples from different bird species (hen, goose and Japanese quail) have been used. Samples were cut out of the membrane in latitudinal direction.

Eggshell membrane as a biodegradable bone regeneration inhibitor [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine, 2008
The efficiency of chicken eggshell membranes combined with a minimally invasive small osteotomy procedure of the ulna to accomplish an efficient release of the radius so that it can continue to grow in an unstressed manner was tested in rabbits. Eggshell

The structure of the eggshell and eggshell membranes of Crocodylus niloticus

open access: yesJournal of Microscopy, 2023
AbstractThe macro‐ and microstructure, elemental composition, and crystallographic characteristics of the eggshell and eggshell membranes of the Crocodylus niloticus egg was investigated using optical and electron microscopy, energy‐dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy (EDS), electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) and computerised tomography. The translucent

The eggshell membrane as a barrier membrane for guided bone regeneration. [PDF]

open access: yesRegen Med
The eggshell membrane (ESM) is a natural resource with a distinct design and composition, offering structural features consistent with barrier membranes used in guided bone regeneration (GBR), making it a promising candidate for this application. This study aims to assess the feasibility of chicken and duck ESMs as GBR alternatives by comparing them ...

Concomitant Morphological Modifications of the Avian Eggshell, Eggshell Membranes and the Chorioallantoic Membrane During Embryonic Development

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2022
The chicken eggshell (ES) consists of 95% calcium carbonate and 3.5% organic matter, and represents the first physical barrier to protect the developing embryo, while preventing water loss. During the second half of development, calcium ions from the inner ES are progressively solubilized to support mineralization of the embryonic skeleton.
