Relationship between eggshell strength and keratan sulfate of eggshell membranes
Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part A: Molecular & Integrative Physiology, 2007Eggshell strength is an important factor in an effort to minimize eggshell breakage, which is a significant problem in the egg production industry. In the current study, we isolated and quantified the specific glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) from the calcified eggshell and shell membranes, which are related to eggshell strength.

Value-added Uses of Eggshell and Eggshell Membranes
2019The chicken egg is a crucial source of high-quality human nutrition. Massive numbers of eggs are produced annually with a significant proportion (30%) being processed in industrial breaking plants, leading to the accumulation of eggshell (ES) and eggshell membrane (ESM) waste.

Noncovalent Interactions of the Eggshell Membrane
Technical Physics Letters, 2020The spectrum of IR active noncovalent interactions of the eggshell membrane has been studied, and the energies of these interactions are estimated. The obtained results are compared to data reported previously for various samples of human aortic valve tissues.

Acid glycosaminoglycan of eggshell membranes
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - General Subjects, 1971Abstract The acid glycosaminoglycan content of eggshell membranes was characterised and compared with that of the isthmus region of hen oviduct which secretes this tissue. Results showed that whereas the eggshell membranes contain only hyaluronic acid which represents less than 0.1% of the dry weight of the tissue, those of the isthmus include ...

Elemental composition of alligator eggshell and eggshell membrane using micro-PIXE
Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms, 2021Abstract Over the past years there has been a notable lack of success with regard to breeding alligator in commercial facilities. Farm-raised alligator eggs exhibit lower hatch rate in comparison with wild alligator eggs. Additionally, the hatch rates of the alligator eggs decrease in captivity until zero production is reached.

Recent Patents on Eggshell: Shell and Membrane Applications
Recent Patents on Food, Nutrition & Agriculturee, 2011The chicken eggshell and its membranes are an inexpensive and abundant waste material which exhibit interesting characteristics for many potential applications. The eggshell is formed mainly of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) and is used widely as an animal feed, lime (Ca(OH)2) substitute or a fertilizer.

The Presence of Desmosine and Isodesmosine in Eggshell Membrane Protein
Connective Tissue Research, 1980Investigation of eggshell membrane by amino acid analysis and radioimmunoassay established the presence of the crosslinking amino acids desmosine and isodesmosine at levels of 28 microgram/100 mg dry weight. Specific enzymatic and chemical hydrolysis indicates that these crosslinks are present as constituents of eggshell membrane protein and do not ...

Bioprocessing of avian eggshells and eggshell membranes using lactic acid bacteria
Journal of Chemical Technology & Biotechnology, 2006AbstractLactic acid fermentation combined with chemical treatments is a new alternative to chemical extraction of by‐products from organic wastes such as prawn and krill shells. This study investigated the potential of whole eggshells (WES) and eggshell membranes (ESM) fermentation to provide a multi‐product process, thereby eliminating waste and ...
