Screening of functional genes affecting the quality of translucent eggshell membranes based on RNA-seq analysis and DIA proteomics

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science
The quality of eggshells holds substantial economic significance and serves as a critical selection criterion in poultry breeding. Eggshell translucency significantly impairs their aesthetic quality, which is structurally attributed to the thinning of ...

From the brink of extinction to regulation: northern Europe's white‐tailed eagles now face density dependence and climate constraints after rapid population growth

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Population growth reflects the combined influence of regulation and density‐independent factors operating through demographic processes. Under exceptional circumstances (e.g. populations recovering from near‐extinction), growth may initially be weakly regulated but typically slows as negative density dependence (NDD) sets in.

Improvement of water absorption behavior and mechanical properties of woven jute fiber‐reinforced epoxy composites with waste eggshell filler

open access: yesPolymer International, EarlyView.
This study investigates the influence of waste eggshell powder on the water absorption and mechanical properties of jute fiber‐reinforced epoxy composites. Optimal eggshell filler content (2 wt%) significantly enhances composite performance by reducing water absorption and improving mechanical properties.

Improving eggshell quality at high temperatures with dietary sodium bicarbonate

open access: yesPoultry Science, 1997
Two experiments were conducted that confirmed the hypothesis that a dietary bicarbonate supplement will improve eggshell quality in hens at high temperatures as long as feed is consumed during the period of eggshell formation. End-of-lay hens were maintained on continuous light at temperatures of 30 and 35 C.

Investigation of the Mechanical, Thermal, and Morphological Properties of ABS Composite Reinforced With Bentonite and DEHPA‐Modified Bentonite

open access: yesJournal of Polymer Science, Volume 63, Issue 6, Page 1505-1517, 15 March 2025.
Mechanical and thermal properties of ABS/Bentonite/DEHPA composites. ABSTRACT This study investigates the mechanical, thermal, and surface characteristics of acrylonitrile–butadiene–styrene (ABS) composites reinforced with bentonite and bis(2‐ethylhexyl) phosphate (DEHPA)‐modified bentonite.

Eggshell Quality as Influenced by Sodium Bicarbonate, Calcium Source, and Photoperiod

open access: yesPoultry Science, 1987
The effects of Ca source (limestone or a mixture of one-third limestone and two-thirds oyster shell), NaHCO3 (0 or .5%) and feeding photoperiod (16 or 24 hr) were studied in a 16-week experiment involving 240 Hy-Line W-36 Leghorn hens, 25 weeks of age.

Impact of Eggshell Color Diversity on Hatchability, Translucency, and Quality Traits in Beijing-You Chicken Eggs

open access: yesAnimals
Due to the effects of pigment deposition and microstructure, the color of eggshells may influence the quality traits and hatchability of eggs. These traits are critical for breeding efficiency and economic outcomes in poultry production.

Hydropower Operations Reduce Alluvial Nesting Habitat and Alter Riverine Turtle Population Demographics

open access: yesRiver Research and Applications, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hydropower management has altered discharge regimes of large rivers worldwide, reducing sediment mobilization and early‐seral conditions essential for many riverine species. Spiny softshell turtles (Apalone spinifera) rely on alluvial habitats for nesting and may serve as sentinel species to assess the effects of regulated flow regimes and ...

Translucent eggs of laying hens: a review

open access: yesPoultry Science
: Eggshell quality is a significant characteristic that influences consumer preferences. Eggshell translucency is a common defect in the appearance of eggshells, which are characterized by gray spots that are visible to the naked eye under natural light.
