Metabarcoding options to study eukaryotic endoparasites of birds

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 11, Issue 16, Page 10821-10833, August 2021., 2021
Parasites of birds are extremely diverse, spanning no less than four different kingdoms (Chromista, Protozoa, Metazoa and Fungi). Our understanding of these communities and their fascinating interactions could benefit from metabarcoding approaches. This report provides a side‐by‐side comparison of different metabarcoding options for a broad description

Habitat fragmentation and vegetation structure impact gastrointestinal parasites of small mammalian hosts in Madagascar

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 11, Issue 11, Page 6766-6788, June 2021., 2021
This study reveals negative effects of habitat fragmentation, habitat degradation, and forest edges on prevalences of intestinal parasites with complex life cycles that were found in four small, arboreal mammal species in fragmented dry forest landscapes in northwestern Madagascar.

Transcriptome profile of halofuginone resistant and sensitive strains of Eimeria tenella

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2023
The antiparasitic drug halofuginone is important for controlling apicomplexan parasites. However, the occurrence of halofuginone resistance is a major obstacle for it to the treatment of apicomplexan parasites.
