Assessing Loggerhead Turtle Exposure to Fisheries in Northwest Africa: Predicted Risk and Management Gaps

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.
Biologging and Global Fishing Watch data reveal extensive spatial and vertical overlap between loggerhead turtles from the Cabo Verde population and fisheries across the Northeast Atlantic, highlighting areas of high predicted bycatch risk and gaps in current protections. ABSTRACT Bycatch is the accidental capture of non‐target animals in fishing gear,

Husbandry of tropical benthonic sharks (Chiloscyllium griseum, C. punctatum and Atelomycterus marmoratus): First step to develop protocols for controlled breeding with conservation purpose

open access: yes, 2011
In the IUCN Red List Chiloscyllium griseum, C. punctatum and Atelomycterus marmoratus are considered as "Near Threatened" species. Presently, there is a lack of information about their general biology, especially concerning reproduction and population ...

Trophic interactions among three elasmobranch species coexisting in the Oman Sea: implications for resource partitioning [PDF]

open access: yesبوم‌شناسی آبزیان, 2017
In this study, trophic interactions were studied among three elasmobranches including Iago omanensis, Rhinobatos punctifer and Torpedo sinuspersici coexisting in the depth ranging from 50 to 100 meters in the Oman Sea (Sistan and Balochistan waters).

Epigenetic Aging in Brain Tissue of the Self‐Fertilizing Vertebrate, Kryptolebias marmoratus

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.
Using the self‐fertilizing vertebrate Kryptolebias marmoratus, we developed an epigenetic clock from brain tissue that predicts chronological age with high accuracy, demonstrating that DNA methylation changes consistently with age even in the near absence of genetic variation. The 40 age‐associated CpG sites identified map to genes with conserved roles

Zoogeography of Elasmobranchs in the Colombian Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea

open access: yesNeotropical Ichthyology
In order to investigate zoogeographical patterns of the marine elasmobranch species of Colombia, species richness of the Pacific and Caribbean and their subareas (Coastal Pacific, Oceanic Pacific, Coastal Caribbean, Oceanic Caribbean) was analyzed.

Multispecies Niche Overlap: Moving Beyond Pairwise Metrics to Understand Community‐Wide Similarities in Resource Use

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.
Measures of niche overlap are important tools in various ecological and evolutionary studies. Here we create and apply a multispecies overlap metric to both simulated and empirical communities, illustrating how this methodology may capture interactions and structure of niche space in ways that traditional, pairwise metrics overlook.
