Lateral Torsional Buckling of Steel Beams Elastically Restrained at the Support Nodes

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
The study shows the results of theoretical investigations into lateral torsional buckling of bisymmetric I-beams elastically restrained against warping and against rotation in the plane of lateral torsional buckling (i.e., against lateral rotation) at ...

Encyclopedia of 2D β′‐In2Se3 Growth Using Chemical Vapor Deposition: The Effects of Synthesis Parameters Onto Material Quality

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A distinct semi‐confined inner‐tube chemical vapor deposition geometry enables reproducible, large‐area growth of phase‐pure 2D β′‐In2Se3 from InI + Se precursors. Engineering local vapor transport and optimizing precursor delivery and temperature–time conditions yield uniform continuous films.

Simplified expressions for elastic lateral torsional buckling of wooden beams

open access: yes, 2018
A beam finite element formulation is developed for the elastic lateral torsional buckling analysis of wood beams with rectangular cross-sections. The formulation accounts for moment gradient, load height, and pre-buckling deformation effects.

Influence of Surface Finish on the Tribological Performance of AlTiBN Coatings Deposited on Forming Tools

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Aluminum and nitride coatings are used in industry because they are hard, resist wear, and protect against oxidation. Adding boron can improve friction behavior and other properties. This study tests coatings on surfaces with different finishes. Results show smoother surfaces perform better, while rough ones wear faster, although coatings can reduce ...

Buckling Analysis of Two-Span Continuous Beams with Lateral Elastic Brace under Uniform Load

open access: yes, 2010
Both total potential energy and buckling equation of two-span continuous beam with lateral elastic brace under uniform load are deduced, based on energy variation method and the principle of minimum potential energy.

Critical Speed Damper

open access: yes, 1963
It is shown that a damper applied to the spherical bearing at the ends of a rotating shaft to damp pitch and yaw motions of the journal bearing can markedly reduce the deflection caused by unbalance near critical speeds.

Experimental Characterization and Constitutive Modeling of the Effect of Prior Inelastic Strain on the Viscoplastic Behavior of AD730 at 700 °C

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study shows that superalloys used in aircraft engine disks become much more prone to deformation at high temperatures if they have been strained during manufacturing. This effect increases with the level of prior strain but eventually reaches a limit.

Low Cycle Repetitive Loading of Ti‐6Al‐4V‐Epoxy Composite Lattice Structures for Enhanced Energy Dissipation and Damage Tolerance

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Composite Ti–6Al–4V–epoxy lattice structures are additively manufactured and epoxy infiltrated for cyclic loading. At low lattice volume fractions, hybridization produces synergistic gains in stiffness and energy dissipation. At higher volume fractions, synergy diminishes, although composites still exceed metallic lattices in specific energy ...

Limitations on linear elastic procedures in performance assessment of regular frames

open access: yes, 2015
Linear elastic analysis procedures are employed exclusively in the traditional seismic design of new structures and widely employed in the seismic assessment of existing structures. It is also a convenient tool for the initial checking of deformations in
