Hot electron transport in Ballistic Electron Emission Spectroscopy: band structure effects and k-space currents

open access: yes, 1998
Using a Green's function approach, we investigate band structure effects in the BEEM current distribution in reciprocal space. In the elastic limit, this formalism provides a 'parameter free' solution to the BEEM problem.

Blasting Vibration Safety Criterion Analysis with Equivalent Elastic Boundary: Based on Accurate Loading Model

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2015
In the tunnel and underground space engineering, the blasting wave will attenuate from shock wave to stress wave to elastic seismic wave in the host rock. Also, the host rock will form crushed zone, fractured zone, and elastic seismic

The Curvature of Plane Elastic Curves

open access: yes, 1993
Abstract : In this paper plane elastic curves are revisited from a viewpoint that emphasizes curvature properties of these curves. The family of elastic curves is considered in dependence of a tension parameter Sigma and the squared global curvature maximum K2/m. It is shown that for any elastic curve K2/m is bigger than the tension parameter Sigma.

Effects of impurity scattering on electron-phonon resonances in semiconductor superlattice high-field transport

open access: yes, 2003
A non-equilibrium Green's function method is applied to model high-field quantum transport and electron-phonon resonances in semiconductor superlattices.

Topological description of mechanical behavior of Cu, Ag and Au: A first-principle study

open access: yesIranian Journal of Physics Research, 2011
Mechanical properties and stress-strain curves of Cu, Ag and Au single crystals are calculated using ab initio methods. Elastic and Plastic regions are scrutinized.

New Torsional Surface Elastic Waves in Cylindrical Metamaterial Waveguides for Sensing Applications

open access: yesSensors
In this paper, we demonstrate that torsional surface elastic waves can propagate along the curved surface of a metamaterial elastic rod (cylinder) embedded in a conventional elastic medium.

A Griffith-Euler-Bernoulli theory for thin brittle beams derived from nonlinear models in variational fracture mechanics

open access: yes, 2016
We study a planar thin brittle beam subject to elastic deformations and cracks described in terms of a nonlinear Griffith energy functional acting on $SBV$ deformations of the beam.

Shape Analysis of Elastic Curves in Euclidean Spaces [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, 2011
This paper introduces a square-root velocity (SRV) representation for analyzing shapes of curves in euclidean spaces under an elastic metric. In this SRV representation, the elastic metric simplifies to the IL(2) metric, the reparameterization group acts by isometries, and the space of unit length curves becomes the unit sphere.

Floquet Theory for Discontinuously Supported Waveguides

open access: yesModelling and Simulation in Engineering, 2016
We apply Floquet theory of periodic coefficient second-order ODEs to an elastic waveguide. The waveguide is modeled as a uniform elastic string periodically supported by a discontinuous Winkler elastic foundation and, as a result, a Hill equation is ...

Whitney-Graustein Homotopy of Locally Convex Curves via a Curvature Flow [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Let $X_0, \widetilde{X}$ be two smooth, closed and locally convex curves in the plane with same winding number. A curvature flow with a nonlocal term is constructed to evolve $X_0$ into $\widetilde{X}$. It is proved that this flow exits globally, preserves both the local convexity and the elastic energy of the evolving curve.
