A model of a general elastic curved rod
AbstractWe indicate a new approach to the deformation of three‐dimensional curved rods with variable cross‐section. The model consists of a system of nine ordinary differential equations for which we prove existence and uniqueness via the coercivity of the association bilinear form.

Elastic flow of curves with partial free boundary
Abstract We consider a curve with boundary points free to move on a line in $\R^2$, which evolves by the $L^2$--gradient flow of the elastic energy, that is a linear combination of the Willmore and the length functional. For such planar evolution problem we study the short and long--time existence.

A discrete framework to find the optimal matching between manifold-valued curves
The aim of this paper is to find an optimal matching between manifold-valued curves, and thereby adequately compare their shapes, seen as equivalent classes with respect to the action of reparameterization.

Lightweight Al-Si alloys are used in the automotive and railway industry due to their excellent strength-to-weight ratio and near-net-shape manufacturing. In additive manufacturing and casting, the near-net-shape manufacturing results in a non-homogenous

Backlund transformations and knots of constant torsion
The Backlund transformation for pseudospherical surfaces, which is equivalent to that of the sine-Gordon equation, can be restricted to give a transformation on space curves that preserves constant torsion.

Quadramode materials: Their design method and wave property
Extremal materials with certain vanishing eigenvalues of their elastic matrix are able to manipulate elastic wave with their extremal static property, the devices designed with such materials can work in a broad frequency band, which is highly demanded ...
