Elastic Deformation of Soft Coatings Due to Lubrication Forces
Elastic deformation of rigid materials with soft coatings (stratified materials) due to lubrication forces can also alter the interpretation of dynamic surface forces measurements and prevent contact formation between approaching surfaces.

Lattice deformation in an axially strained BiSrCaCuO/Ag tape conductor investigated by X-ray diffraction [PDF]
The lattice deformation of a Bi-2212/Ag tape conductor is investigated as a function of an externally applied strain at 300 K. This macroscopic strain is applied in the same direction (¿axial¿) as where the current is normally passed through the ...

The Deformation of an Elastic Substrate by a Three-Phase Contact Line
Young's classic analysis of the equilibrium of a three-phase contact line ignores the out-of-plane component of the liquid-vapor surface tension. While it has long been appreciated that this unresolved force must be balanced by elastic deformation of the

FRICTION ANALYSIS ON SCRATCH DEFORMATION MODES OF VISCO-ELASTIC-PLASTIC MATERIALS
Understanding of abrasion resistance and associated surfaces deformation mechanisms is of primary importance in materials engineering and design. Instrumented scratch testing has proven to be a useful tool for characterizing the abrasion resistance of ...

The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

METHOD FOR MODIFYING PROFILE OF CYCLOIDAL WHEEL CONSIDERING COMPENSATION FOR ELASTIC DEFORMATION
Considering the influence of elastic deformation on the profile of the cycloid,a cycloid profile modification method for compensating elastic deformation is proposed.Based on the theory of cycloid profile modification, the coordinates of the meshing point
