Elastic and anelastic Full-Waveform Inversion across scales
2023Improving the resolution of seismic models is critical for enhancing our understanding of the Earth's subsurface structure and dynamics. Full-Waveform Inversion (FWI) has emerged as the most promising approach for connecting high-resolution body wave tomography with lower-resolution surface wave tomography at local, regional, and global scales.

Elastic Wave Mode Decoupling for Full Waveform Inversion
Proceedings, 2015Elastic full waveform inversion (EFWI) is coming into use to obtain more accurate parameter estimation in the subsurface. However, it seriously suffers from trade-off between the elastic parameters. To mitigate this effect, we present a strategy for gradients calculation by taking account of elastic wave mode decoupling.

Practical elastic full-waveform inversion in the Gulf of Mexico
The Leading EdgeAbstract Elastic full-waveform inversion (EFWI) improves velocity model building accuracy through its utilization of a more accurate representation of wave propagation in the subsurface. Such accuracy is desirable in areas with high-impedance contrasts (e.g., at interfaces separating salt bodies from the surrounding sediments), where ...

Introduction to this special section: Elastic full-waveform inversion
The Leading EdgeOver the past two decades, full-waveform inversion (FWI) has advanced rapidly in the seismic industry, addressing both technical and business challenges in the upstream sector. This technology offers enhanced subsurface information from seismic data. Recently, there has been a growing focus on incorporating elastic physics into waveform inversion, as ...
