Elastic Full Waveform Inversion for Near-Surface Imaging

open access: yes68th EAGE Conference and Exhibition incorporating SPE EUROPEC 2006, 2006
We propose here a method for maging near-surface structures although it can nevertheless be applied for deeper areas characterization. We perform the elastic full waveform inversion in the frequency domain in order to recover physical properties of the medium from both body waves and surfaces waves.

Well-Guided Multisource Elastic Full-Waveform Inversion

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 2022
Full waveform inversion (FWI) has been considered one of the most promising approaches to estimating the high-resolution subsurface parameters, which takes advantage of the kinematics and dynamics information of seismic data. However, FWI is greatly dependent on the accuracy of the initial model and vulnerable to the issue of local minimum.

Strategies for elastic full waveform inversion

open access: yes, 2020
The advent of modern supercomputers, in conjunction with larger, more comprehensive datasets, has led to a paradigm shift in seismic imaging. Full waveform inversion is routinely employed as a tool to estimate subsurface properties of the Earth with high resolution.

3D Elastic Full-Waveform Inversion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Full Waveform Inversion (FWI) is a depth imaging technique that takes advantage of the full information contained in recorded seismic data. FWI provide high resolution images of subsurface properties, usually seismic velocities or related parameters, although in theory it could image any property used to formulate the wave equation.

Elastic full-waveform inversion for surface topography

open access: yesGEOPHYSICS, 2017
Elastic full-waveform inversion (EFWI) attempts to find high-resolution model parameters that are able to match observed data exactly by minimizing residuals between the observed and predicted data. However, irregular surface topography can generate problematic EFWI results.

Target-oriented high-resolution elastic full-waveform inversion with an elastic redatuming method

open access: yesGeophysics, 2022
Characterizing the elastic properties in deep-buried reservoirs beneath complex overburden structures remains challenging for seismic inversion. Elastic full waveform inversion (FWI) is capable of quantitatively estimating the subsurface elastic ...
