Constrained Elastic-Plastic Materials

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1994
The main purpose of this paper is to present a general (purely mechanical) constrained theory of finitely deforming elastic-plastic materials. Our development is based on a strain-space formulation of plasticity and requires a detailed examination of the effect of constraint on various constitutive ingredients in the unconstrained theory, including the

Elastic‐plastic materials as simple materials

ZAMM - Journal of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics / Zeitschrift für Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik, 1973
AbstractA theory including classical elastic‐plastic materials is derived as a special case of the theory of simple material under certain hypotheses of smoothness and rate‐independence. The concepts of yield functions and flow rules of the classical theories are shown to be defined by the stress functional of a simple material under these smoothness ...

Universal Relations for Elastically Isotropic Elastic-Plastic Materials

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1991
The objective of this note is to obtain universal relations for any isotropic elastic-plastic or elastic-viscoplastic materials of hyperelastic type. Using thermodynamic quantities (plastic deformation), isotropic and directional hardening, temperature, free energy, entropy, etc.

Elastic fracture in random materials

Physical Review B, 1988
We analyze a simple model of elastic failure in randomly inhomogeneous materials such as minerals and ceramics. We study a two-dimensional triangular lattice with nearest-neighbor harmonic springs. The springs are present with probability p. The springs can only withstand a small strain before they fail completely and irreversibly.

Nonlinear elasticity in nanostructured materials

Reports on Progress in Physics, 2011
We elaborate on a blended continuum/atomistic theoretical picture of the nonlinear elastic properties of nanostructured materials, looking at diverse aspects such as dispersions of inhomogeneities within a matrix, random or graded nanograined materials, two-dimensional atomic sheets.

Instability of an elastic material

International Journal of Solids and Structures, 1973
Conditions are derived which are necessary for stability of incompressible elastic materials. These are obtained by considering the speeds of small-amplitude plane waves superposed on a finitely deformed state of the material.
