Quantifying dynamic traffic in Elastic Optical networks

open access: yes2017 19th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON), 2017
This work is focused on the characterization of the traffic allocated in Elastic Optical backbone networks when different dynamic traffic profiles are generated. Extensive simulations are done to statistically model the real-time traffic carried by this kind of networks.

On QoS-assured degraded provisioning in service-differentiated multi-layer elastic optical networks

open access: yes, 2017
The emergence of new network applications is driving network operators to not only fulfill dynamic bandwidth requirements, but offer various grades of service. Degraded provisioning provides an effective solution to flexibly allocate resources in various

Microfluidic systems for the analysis of the viscoelastic fluid flow phenomena in porous media [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In this study, two microfluidic devices are proposed as simplified 1-D microfluidic analogues of a porous medium. The objectives are twofold: firstly to assess the usefulness of the microchannels to mimic the porous medium in a controlled and simplified ...

Multimodal Mechanical Testing of Additively Manufactured Ti6Al4V Lattice Structures: Compression, Bending, and Fatigue

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In this experimental study, the mechanical properties of additively manufactured Ti‐6Al‐4V lattice structures of different geometries are characterized using compression, four point bending and fatigue testing. While TPMS designs show superior fatigue resistance, SplitP and Honeycomb lattice structures combine high stiffness and strength. The resulting

Soft Failure Localization in Elastic Optical Networks

open access: yes2018 20th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON), 2018
Soft failure localization to early detect service level agreement violations is of paramount importance in elastic optical networks (EONs), while it allows anticipating possible hard failure events. Nowadays, effective and automated solutions for soft failure localization during lightpaths' commissioning testing and operation are still missing. In this

Oxidation induced changes in viscoelastic properties of a thermostable epoxy matrix [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The thermal ageing of a neat epoxy matrix has been studied at 200°C in air by three complementary analytical techniques: optical microscopy, mechanical spectrometry and nano-indentation. Thermal oxidation is restricted in a superficial layer of about 195

Manufacturing Continuous Fiber‐Reinforced Printing Filaments: Development of a Post‐Consolidation Unit

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A novel, temperature‐controlled post‐consolidation unit is developed to test its potential to improve the melt impregnation process used to manufacture continuous fiber‐reinforced filaments for additive manufacturing of high‐performance thermoplastics.

3D (Bio) Printing Combined Fiber Fabrication Methods for Tissue Engineering Applications: Possibilities and Limitations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Biofabrication aims at providing innovative technologies and tools for the fabrication of tissue‐like constructs for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine applications. By integrating multiple biofabrication technologies, such as 3D (bio) printing with fiber fabrication methods, it would be more realistic to reconstruct native tissue's ...

Multiclass scheduling algorithms for the DAVID metro network [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
—The data and voice integration over dense wavelength-division-multiplexing (DAVID) project proposes a metro network architecture based on several wavelength-division-multiplexing (WDM) rings interconnected via a bufferless optical switch called Hub. The
