Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

What Do Large Language Models Know About Materials?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
If large language models (LLMs) are to be used inside the material discovery and engineering process, they must be benchmarked for the accurateness of intrinsic material knowledge. The current work introduces 1) a reasoning process through the processing–structure–property–performance chain and 2) a tool for benchmarking knowledge of LLMs concerning ...

A comparative study of aging of the elastic fiber system of the diaphragm and the rectus abdominis muscles in rats

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research, 2000
In the present study the age-related changes of the striated muscle elastic fiber system were investigated in the diaphragm and rectus abdominis muscles of 1-, 4-, 8- and 18-month-old rats.

Development of new electrostatic micro cam system driven by elastic wings

open access: yes, 2017
In this paper, we improve and develop a micro cam system, in which reciprocating linear movement of two electrostatic linear comb-drive actuators (ELCA) is transformed into the unilateral rotation of a cam rim through six elastic wings of motion ...

A Workflow to Accelerate Microstructure‐Sensitive Fatigue Life Predictions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a workflow to accelerate predictions of microstructure‐sensitive fatigue life. Results from frameworks with varying levels of simplification are benchmarked against published reference results. The analysis reveals a trade‐off between accuracy and model complexity, offering researchers a practical guide for selecting the optimal ...

Calculation of changes in state of Murnaghans elastic-plastic material under conditions of flow with known movement speeds

open access: yesInformatika, 2018
For the generalized elastic-plastic material of Murnaghan, the problem of determining the velocities of the left measure of elastic distortions and the growth parameter of elastic deformation anisotropy at known displacement velocities is considered. The
