Elasticity and Anelasticity of Metals.
The Journal of Physical and Colloid Chemistry, 1949WHEN metals are submitted to stress, the stress/swain relation is generally regarded as consisting of two parts, the elastic region and the region bfsplastiwin which a permanent set remains upon the remova of the stress. In the elastic region the absence of a permanent set does not necessarily imply that the relation between stress and strain is linear

Anomalous elasticity and anelasticity of GdCu at low temperatures
Solid State Communications, 1981Abstract The temperature dependence of the single crystal and polycrystalline elastic constants of GdCu compound have been determined between the ambient and 77 K, the interval in which the structural instability occurs. From the shear constants, C' and C 44 the magnitude of the elastic anisotropy was calculated, and found to be close to unity over ...

Nondiffuse elastic and anelastic passive imaging
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2010The property at the basis of passive acoustic imaging is that, taken any two points, one of them can be seen as the source of the waves and the other as the recording station. This property, which was shown to hold also in nondiffuse fields, is here exploited: (1) to allow an undistorted passive imaging through the simple use of the statistical mode to

On raytracing in an elastic-anelastic medium
Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America, 1991AbstractIn this article, we investigate seismic wave propagation in a medium consisting of a stack of anelastic layers sandwiched between two half-spaces. The upper half-space is perfectly elastic, and the lower half-space is anelastic. The source is in the upper elastic half-space.

The method of penalizing functions for elastic/anelastic impacts
1999 European Control Conference (ECC), 1999The importance of the Erdmann-Weierstrass corner conditions in modelling systems constituted by bodies colliding during their motion is well known, as in many cases such equations are sufficient to determine the systems velocities after an impact. In this paper, the Erdmann-Weierstrass corner conditions are obtained through the method of the penalizing

The elastic and anelastic behavior of a metallic glass
Journal of Non-Crystalline Solids, 1971Abstract The temperature dependence of the internal friction and Young's modulus of the glassy and crystalline phases of a Pd 0.76 Au 0.75 Si 0.165 alloy have been determined by a resonance technique. The internal friction of the glassy alloy increases exponentially above 150°C at a frequency of 140 Hz.

Elastic and anelastic behaviour of icosahedral quasicrystals
Journal of Materials Science, 1989A theory is developed, based on theoretical-group analysis, to describe the linear, reversible, time-dependent response of an icosahedral quasicrystal, containing point defects, to a stress field and known as anelastic relaxation. We obtain also anelastic relaxation relationships for the practical Young’s, shear and Poisson’s moduli.
