Combined Stereoscopic Particle Image Velocimetry and Line Integral Convolution Methods: Application to a Sphere Sedimenting Near a Wall in a Non-Newtonian Fluid. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The flow fields for a sphere sedimenting through a Newtonian and two non-Newtonian liquids near a wall in a square tank are investigated using 3-D stereoscopic particle image velocimetry (PIV) and line integral convolution (LIC) methods.

Counterion Dependent Side‐Chain Relaxation Stiffens a Chemically Doped Thienothiophene Copolymer

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Oxidation of a thienothiophene copolymer, p(g3TT‐T2), via different doping strategies and dopant molecules resulted in materials with similar oxidation levels and a high electrical conductivity of ≈100 S cm−1. However, mechanical properties varied significantly, with sub‐glass transition temperatures and elastic moduli spanning from –44°C to –3°C and ...

Biomechanical parameters quantified by MR elastography for predicting response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy and disease-free survival in breast cancer: a prospective longitudinal study

open access: yesBreast Cancer Research
Background Little is known regarding biomechanical properties derived from multifrequency MR elastography temporal changes during neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) and associated with pathologic complete response (pCR) and disease-free survival (DFS) in ...

Mechanical Behavior and Fracture Mechanisms of MXene/PVDF Nanocomponsites: In Situ Characterization and Multiscale Analysis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Multiscale experiments and modeling reveal how Ti3C2Tx MXene nanosheets reinforce PVDF nanocomposites. An optimal MXene loading (∼1 wt.%) nearly doubles tensile strength through efficient stress transfer, flake alignment, and crack‐deflection mechanisms, transforming ductile polymer behavior into a controlled multi‐stage fracture pathway which aligns ...

Relationship of Shear-wave Elastography Findings with Breast Cancer Molecular Subtypes and Comparison with Other Radiological Imaging Techniques

open access: yes, 2001
Purpose: We aimed to evaluate the shear-wave elastography (SWE) findings of breast cancer and to compare their differences with other imaging techniques and to determine the rela-tionship between molecular subtypes.

Microenvironmental Reprogramming by 3D Anisotropic Cardiac Extracellular Matrix Induces Nuclear Remodeling and Epigenetic Maturation of Chemically Induced Cardiomyocytes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A 3D anisotropic hydrogel derived from heart extracellular matrix guides cytoskeletal alignment and nuclear remodeling in reprogrammed cardiomyocyte‐like cells. This study reveals how matrix alignment modulates nuclear envelope dynamics and chromatin state, triggering transcriptional and functional maturation.

Nonlinear elasticity imaging using ultrasound.

open access: yes, 2003
Currently, elasticity imaging procedures assume that the elastic modulus does not change with deformation. Most biological tissues, however, exhibit strain hardening.
