Numerical analysis of the effective stiffness of elastomeric bearing pads under precast beams for the limit load of lateral instability

open access: yesRevista IBRACON de Estruturas e Materiais, 2020
Precast concrete girders on bearing pads are subjected to instability depending on several variables such as span length, initial imperfections and bearing pads behavior.

Machine for use in monitoring fatigue life for a plurality of elastomeric specimens [PDF]

open access: yes, 1977
An improved machine is described for use in determining the fatigue life for elastomeric specimens. The machine is characterized by a plurality of juxtaposed test stations, specimen support means located at each of the test stations for supporting a ...

Bridge-specific fragility analysis: when is it really necessary? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
In seismic assessment of bridges the research focus has recently shifted on the derivation of bridge-specific fragility curves that account for the effect of different geometry, structural system, component and soil properties, on the seismic behaviour ...

Thermal Processing Creates Water‐Stable PEDOT:PSS Films for Bioelectronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 37, Issue 13, April 2, 2025.
Instead of using chemical cross–linkers, it is shown that PEDOT:PSS thin films for bioelectronics become water‐stable after a simple heat treatment. The heat treatment is compatible with a range of rigid and elastomeric substrates and films are stable in vivo for >20 days.

Hybrid Vibration Control of Hospital Buildings against Earthquake Excitations Using Unbonded Fiber-Reinforced Elastomeric Isolator and Tuned Mass Damper

open access: yesBuildings, 2023
Lifeline structures such as hospital buildings need to be specifically designed such that they experience reduced vibrations when subjected to earthquake excitations because it will be difficult to vacate hospital buildings under the event of any ...

Large‐Area 2D Metasurface‐Based Triboelectric E‐Skin Arrays: Contact & Proximity Tactile Mapping with Broadband Acoustic Readouts

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Metasurface‐engineered NC‐TENG arrays integrate tactile pressure mapping, non‐contact gesture sensing, and acoustic signal readouts in one ultrathin module, and outperforms pristine PDMS in terms of electrical output and real‐time spatial mapping for next‐gen wearables.

Deformation of elastomeric chains related to the amount and time of stretching

open access: yesDental Press Journal of Orthodontics, 2013
OBJECTIVE: To investigate a potential relationship between degree of stretching and resulting permanent deformation of elastomeric chains (ECs) as well as whether or not stretching time has any bearing on the degree of permanent deformation.

Forward bearing reactor mechanism for Titan 3-E/Centaur D-1T space launch vehicle [PDF]

open access: yes, 1975
System between the Titan/Centaur launch vehicle and its aerodynamic shroud is described. The system provides a precise spring constant and is capable of being inactivated during flight.

Hybrid Magnetoactive Soft Elastomers: Material Development Toward Application in Diaphragm Pumps

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Hybrid magnetoactive soft elastomeric membranes are developed by combining two different types of magnetic particles. The membranes exhibit distinct mechanical, magnetic and thermal properties owing to the unique characteristics of the two magnetic particles.

Thrust bearing [PDF]

open access: yes, 1976
A gas lubricated thrust bearing is described which employs relatively rigid inwardly cantilevered spokes carrying a relatively resilient annular member or annulus. This annulus acts as a beam on which are mounted bearing pads.
