Carburizer process in electric arc furnaces

Russian Metallurgy (Metally), 2015
The behavior of coke and carbon in heating and melting of steel scrap is considered. The efficiency of carbon assimilation in the period of metal melting is estimated for various versions of introduction of a lump carbon-containing material into an EAF charge. The use of a carbon-containing material as an alternative heat source in EAF is analyzed.

Valorization of Electrical Arc Furnace Oxidizing Slag

2014
Valorization of the electrical arc furnace oxidizing slag by coke was carried out by the reduction of iron oxide in the slag. Since the reduction of iron oxide by solid carbon is an endothermic reaction, supply of heat energy is required. In addition, slag has a low thermal conductivity; traditional fuel injection is not suitable for this reaction ...

Overcurrent Protection in Electric Arc Furnaces

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 2019
This article proposes a new adaptive protection setting methodology for steel manufacturers, aiming to reduce miscoordination between main feeders and current consumptions due to fault clearance or high load disconnection. By detecting abrupt changes in current consumption, the computation of different protection settings may be achieved.

Refractory Practice in Electric Arc Furnace

2020
Owing to several advantages including flexibility to produce several grades of steel, precise control, cleaner environment and minimum installation space, many mini steel plants are producing steel through electric arc furnace (EAF) route. This protocol is benefited to use sponge iron and higher share of scrap utilization.

Electric arc-fired blast furnace system

Journal of Heat Recovery Systems, 1986
This invention relates to an electric-arc fired blast furnace system for the reduction of iron-bearing material utilizing electric-arc heated air containing a reducing gas or carbon-containing fuel allowing for a decrease in the amount of coke normally used in the reduction process. The excess reducing gases exiting the furnace are utilized as a source

Sponge iron in electric arc furnaces

JOM, 1957
When reducing iron ores at temperatures below their melting point, the end product will be a porous mass of more or less completely reduced iron; this product is called sponge iron. Sweden utilizes a greater tonnage of sponge iron than any other country at the present time.

Modeling of the Electric Arc Behavior of the Electric Arc Furnace

2013
During the electric arc furnace operation appear disturbances, which can affect the other equipments that are connected to the same power network. So it is necessary to develop models for the electric arc which characterizes the electric arc behavior in order to identify methods and solutions through which the disturbances that appear in the power ...
