Electric countershock and cold stress effects on liver and adrenal gland [PDF]
OBJECTIVES: Cold exposure induces glycogen and lipid depletion in the liver and the adrenal gland, respectively. However, no previous study has determined the effects of electrical countershock on those tissues.

Cardiac Arrhythmias Requiring Electric Countershock during the Neonatal Period—A Systematic Review [PDF]
Background: In neonates, cardiac arrhythmias are rare. Electric countershock therapy is an effective alternative to drug therapy for neonatal arrhythmias. There are no randomized controlled studies investigating electric countershock therapy in neonates.

Ultrastructural injury to chick myocardial cells in vitro following "electric countershock". [PDF]
We studied the structural alterations that follow the application of currents similar to those used in clinical electric countershock procedures in cultured chick myocardial cells. Myocardial cells 48 hours in culture were subjected to electric field stimulation. The cells then were fixed for electron-microscope examination 30 seconds postshock.

Active Compression During External Cardioversion of Atrial Fibrillation: A Meta‐Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials [PDF]
Objectives Direct current cardioversion (DCCV) is commonly used for atrial fibrillation, but there is uncertainty about whether active chest compression improves its effectiveness.

Risk assessment of electric shock to the general public without Personal Protective Equipment during defibrillation shock delivery: A simulation study [PDF]
Aim: This study aimed to elucidate the risk of electric shock when the general public, not wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), is in contact with a patient, and a defibrillation shock is inadvertently delivered.

Automated external cardioversion defibrillation monitoring in cardiac arrest: a randomized trial [PDF]
Background In-hospital cardiac arrest has a poor prognosis despite active electrocardiography monitoring. The initial rhythm of approximately 25% of in-hospital cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) events is pulseless ventricular tachycardia/ventricular ...

Cardiac Pacemaker Battery Discharge After External Electrical Cardioversion for Broad QRS Complex Tachycardia [PDF]
External electrical cardioversion or defibrillation may be necessary in patients with implanted cardiac pacemaker (PM) or implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD).

Effects of DC Electric Countershock on Ventricular Function, Cation Balance and Endogenous Norepinephrine in the Dog Heart [PDF]
Effects of DC electric countershock on cardiac function in thoracotomized dogs were evaluated from recordings of ECG, aortic pressure, left ventircular pressure and its first derivative, and coronary sinus flow. Samples of arterial and coronary venous plasma and left ventricular myocardium obtained before and after countershock at times corresponding ...
