Measurements of Electric-Field Strengths in Ionization Fronts during Breakdown [PDF]
Using laser-induced fluorescence-dip Stark spectroscopy, we performed time-resolved, direct measurements of electric-field strengths during the breakdown phase of a low-pressure, pulsed discharge in xenon. With this experimental technique we could for the first time quantitatively measure the time evolution of the driving force of the plasma breakdown ...

Proton Wires in an Electric Field: the Impact of Grotthuss Mechanism on Charge Translocation
We present the results of the modeling of proton translocation in finite H-bonded chains in the framework of two-stage proton transport model. We explore the influence of reorientation motion of protons, as well as the effect of electric field and proton

Impurity center in a semiconductor quantum ring in the presence of a radial electric field
The problem of an impurity electron in a quantum ring (QR) in the presence of a radially directed strong external electric field is investigated in detail. Both an analytical and a numerical approach to the problem are developed.

ErB4 and NdB4 nanostructured powders are produced by mechanochemical synthesis. 5 h mechanical alloying and 4 M HCl acid leaching are used in the production. ErB4 and NdB4 powders exhibit maximum magnetization of 0.4726 emu g−1 accompanied with an antiferromagnetic‐to‐paramagnetic phase transition at about TN = 18 K and 0.132 emu g−1 with a maximum at ...

Harnessing Fungal Biowelding for Constructing Mycelium‐Engineered Materials
Mycelium‐bound composites (MBCs) offer low‐carbon alternatives for construction, yet interfacial bonding remains a critical challenge. This review examines fungal biowelding as a biocompatible adhesive, elucidating mycelium‐mediated interfacial mechanisms and their role in material assembly. Strategies to optimize biowelding are discussed, highlighting

Electric-field strengths measured near personal transceivers [PDF]
Electric-field strengths were measured at a number of points near 5-W personal transceivers. The points were located on cylinders of revolution with radii of 7 and 12 cm around the antenna. The transceivers operated on four authorized frequencies of 40.27, 162.475, 464, and 823 MHz, and radiated powers of 5, 5, 5, and 3 W, respectively.

Modifying the photodetachment near a metal surface by a weak electric field
We show the photodetachment cross sections of H near a metal surface can be modified using a weak static electric field. The modification is possible because the oscillatory part of the cross section near a metal surface is directly connected with the ...
