Developing a monitoring system for Toyota Prius battery-packs for longer term performance issues

open access: yes, 2013
The Toyota Prius battery pack consists of 38 individual battery blades, each blade contains 6 NiMH cells in series. This means that each pack contains 228 NiMH cells. Given this number of individually manufactured cells combined into a large battery pack,

Tailoring Functional Properties of Ti–Ni–Cu Shape Memory Alloy Thin Films for MEMS Actuators

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A comprehensive study of critical parameters required to develop well‐performing Ti–Ni–Cu thin film shape memory alloy microactuators is provided. Materials science and device integration aspects are integrated by addressing structural and physical relationships using complementary characterization techniques as well as a practical fabrication solution

Analysis of Warburg's impedance and its equivalent electric circuits

open access: yes, 2017
The derivation of Warburg's impedance is revisited and critically analyzed. We show that the original derivation where the electric current is assumed to be due only to the diffusion of ions, as proposed by Warburg, raises some fundamental questions. The

Broadband electrical impedance spectroscopy for dynamic electrical bio-impedance characterization

open access: yes, 2023
The electrical impedance of biological samples is known in the literature as Electrical Bioimpedance (EBI). The Electrical Bioimpedance enables to characterize physiological conditions and events that are interesting for physiological research and medical diagnosis.

Creep‐Induced Microstructural Evolution in an A2‐B2 Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A 27.3Ta‐27.3Mo‐27.3Ti‐8Cr‐10Al (at.%) refractory high‐entropy alloy with precipitation‐strengthened A2‐B2 microstructure was studied by creep tests at 1030°C, which demonstrate a transition in deformation mechanisms in the range of 100–150 MPa applied stress. This is associated with changes in dislocation–precipitate interactions. Relevant deformation

Advanced generator design using Pareto-optimization

open access: yes, 2011
In upcoming and future more-electric airplanes more electrical loads connected to the power distribution network will behave nonlinearly and will be switching with advanced demands on the network to keep the power quality.

Creep Properties and Deformation Mechanism of Additively Manufactured NiAl‐CrMo Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additively manufactured NiAl‐CrMo composites contain numerous interfaces and cell boundaries that control their creep response. At 700°C under high applied stress, creep is dominated by dislocation‐controlled power‐law mechanisms. At 800°C–900°C and lower stresses, creep is primarily diffusion‐controlled along cell boundaries.

Impact of Repair Joints in Fencing Wire on Data Communications: How to Receive Radio and Block Data using No. 8 Wire

open access: yes, 2014
Modern electric fences have remote controls and remote monitors that communicate with the energizer through the active fence wire. This manuscript looks at the impact of repair joints on the data communications between energizer and remotes.

Electric-field structuring of piezoelectric composite materials [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Piezoelectric composite materials, consisting of a ferroelectric ceramic in an electrically-inactive polymer matrix, have been shown to greatly outperform single phase materials for certain applications.
