The Oxford Optical Pointer: a direction-sensing device with proportional electrical output
Medical & Biological Engineering & Computing, 1988For some disabled people pointing provides a more convenient means of communication and control than the use of switches. The quadriplegic who retains good control of head movement can be provided with a number of input alternatives, but no existing system meets all the requirements of a general-purpose electronic pointing device.

A device for sensing and balance augmentation using functional electrical stimulation
2020Based on World Health Organization (WHO) report, between 250,000 and 500,000 people suffer from disabilities caused by spinal cord injuries each year. The result of this study is development of a medical device to restore walking in such patients using Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES). We selected dogs as our animal subject. This device uses FES

RFID helix antenna on power cord for the sensing of home electrical devices activity
2017 11th European Conference on Antennas and Propagation (EUCAP), 2017A flexible RFID-Helix antenna wrapped around the power-cord, integrated with a RFID tag and a current impulse detection circuit, for wireless sensing of the activity of home electrical devices, is proposed. While the use of a straight dipole showed a significant distortion of the antenna radiation pattern due to the very close proximity of the wires ...

Graphite oxide multilayers for device fabrication: Enzyme‐based electrical sensing of glucose
physica status solidi (a), 2015In this paper, the use of graphite oxide multilayers as a transducer material for the fabrication of electronic devices is outlined. Graphite oxide flakes were produced in a solution‐based exfoliation method optimized for large area thin layers with narrow size distribution.

RFID Tag Coupled with a Magnetic Sensor for Wireless Sensing of Home Electrical Devices
2018 48th European Microwave Conference (EuMC), 2018A novel solution for sensing the activity of different electrical devices connected to the home power line, based on the use of a long-range UHF RFID system, is proposed. The solution uses a 3-axis magnetometer, coupled with a flexible RFID tag wrapped around the power cord of an electrical device to be sensed.

Velocity Measurement with Electrical Double-Sensing Devices in Two-Phase Flow
1984A computer-aided-data-processing method was developed to enable the velocity and liquid holdup measurements of liquid lumps having a wide range of velocities from forward and backward flow. Furthermore, an algorithm for the development of a relatively simple microprocessor was produced with aiming the measurement of forward flow.

Electromagnetic interference (EMI) induced by electrocautery during surgery in patients with cardiac pacemakers or implanted cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs) may inhibit pacing and cause inappropriate tachyarrhythmia oversensing. In particular, susceptibility to EMI may be enhanced in ICDs by frequently used wide interelectrode sensing (i.e ...
