Material Composition Gradient Controls the Autonomous Opening of Banksia Seed Pods in Fire‐Prone Habitats

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The seed pod valves of Australian Banksia attenuata plants are not simply bi‐layers which bend when dry. These experiments and models reveal complex mechanics, which allow seed release only after several steps of seed pod opening. Stiffness gradients prevent delamination of the valves during loading, and a shape‐memory function protects the seeds ...

A comparative study fourth order runge kutta-tvd Scheme and fluent software case of inlet flow problems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Inlet as part of aircraft engine plays important role in controlling the rate of airflow entering to the engine. The shape of inlet has to be designed in such away to make the rate of airflow does not change too much with angle of attack and also not ...

Remote Focusing for 2-photon Microscopy to Follow Action Potential Propagation Transmurally in Acute Rabbit Cardiac Slices [PDF]

open access: yes
In the heart, action potentials travel through the tissue to orchestrate muscle contraction and make the organ an efficient pump. Scar tissues caused by myocardial infarction impairs electrical conduction. In the rabbit heart, action potentials propagate

Understanding the Role of Hydrogen and Oxygen in Electronic Phase Changes of Nickelates

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The reversible exchange of hydrogen and oxygen in solids is key to their electronic and electro‐chemical functionality. A combination of methods is employed to study the interaction of hydrogen with a prototypical quantum material in a non‐destructive and time‐dependent manner.

Classification and Prediction of Heart Diseases using Machine Learning Algorithms [PDF]

open access: yes
Heart disease is a serious worldwide health issue because it claims the lives of many people who might have been treated if the disease had been identified earlier. The leading cause of death in the world is cardiovascular disease, usually referred to as heart disease.

Wetting of Surface Grafted Hydrophilic‐b‐Hydrophobic Block Copolymer Brushes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The wetting properties of surface grafted diblock copolymer brushes are influenced by the thickness of the hydrophilic bottom block and the hydrophobic top block. The surface adapts in presence of water and the contact angles of the bottom block shine through. Abstract The wetting of diblock copolymer brushes by water is studied.

Fast Simulation of Mechanical Heterogeneity in the Electrically Asynchronous Heart Using the MultiPatch Module.

open access: yesPLoS Computational Biology, 2015
Cardiac electrical asynchrony occurs as a result of cardiac pacing or conduction disorders such as left bundle-branch block (LBBB). Electrically asynchronous activation causes myocardial contraction heterogeneity that can be detrimental for cardiac ...

Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm for acousto-electric tomography based on the complete electrode model [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
The inverse problem in Acousto-Electric tomography concerns the reconstruction of the electric conductivity in a domain from knowledge of the power density function in the interior of the body. This interior power density results from currents prescribed at boundary electrodes (and can be obtained through electro-static boundary measurements together ...
