Effect of sensory deprivation and locus coeruleus phasic electrical stimulation following the deflection of adjacent whisker on response properties of principal whisker related-neurons in layer IV of rat barrel cortex [PDF]

open access: yes
Background: Barrel cortex of rodents is responsible for sensory information processing via facial whiskers. Locus coeruleus (LC), main source of cortical norepinephrine (NE), influences tactile sensory processing.

Tissue‐Stimulator Platform for Electrically Stimulating Pancreatic β‐Cells for Long‐Term Functional Regulation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We present a tissue‐stimulator platform for seamless electrode integration with pancreatic tissue, applying uniform electrical stimulation through optimized design with biohybrid 3D printing. Advantageous effects of electrical stimulation on β‐cell function were observed, including enhanced calcium signaling, islet morphology, and maturation.

Thermally Engineered Sodium‐Embedded Alumina with Programmable Synaptic Plasticity for Neuromorphic Transistors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A fully transparent, all‐metal‐oxide neuromorphic transistor using a sodium‐embedded alumina (SEA) electrolyte is demonstrated. By precisely tuning the thermal annealing process, the chemical composition of the SEA layer is controlled, allowing for the deterministic realization of both short‐term and long‐term synaptic plasticity within the same device

Design Strategies and Emerging Applications of High‐Performance Flexible Piezoresistive Pressure Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Flexible piezoresistive pressure sensors underpin wearable and soft electronics. This review links sensing physics, including contact resistance modulation, quantum tunneling and percolation, to unified materials/structure design. We highlight composite and graded architectures, interfacial/porous engineering, and microstructured 3D conductive networks

Repeated cycles of electrical stimulation decrease vasoconstriction and axon-reflex vasodilation to noradrenaline in the human forearm

open access: yes, 2007
To investigate whether desensitization to the vasomotor effects of noradrenaline is a specific effect of electrical stimulation. Three sites on the forearm of 10 healthy volunteers were stimulated with 0.2 mA direct current for 2 min twice daily for 10 ...

Upper-limb exercise in tetraplegia using functional electrical stimulation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Cervical spinal cord injury can result in dysfunction in both the lower and upper limbs (tetraplegia), andmay be accompanied by a range of secondary complications. The degree of upper-limb dysfunctiondepends upon the level and completeness of the lesion;
