Thermodynamic Pathways of Nonequilibrium Solidification in Wire‐Arc Additive Manufacturing Fe‐Based Multicomponent Alloy Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Geometry‐driven thermal behavior in wire‐arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) influences microstructural evolution during nonequilibrium solidification of a chemically complex Fe–Cr–Nb–W–Mo–C nanocomposite system. By comparing different deposits configurations, distinct entropy–cooling rate correlations, segregation, and carbide evolution are revealed ...

4D Electrical Resistivity Imaging of Stress Perturbations Induced During High‐Pressure Shear Stimulation Tests

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
Fluid flow through fractured media is typically governed by the distribution of fracture apertures, which are in turn governed by stress. Consequently, understanding subsurface stress is critical for understanding and predicting subsurface fluid flow ...

Morphological evolution and migration behavior of silver thin films on flexible substrates during thermal cycle testing

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2018
To understand morphological evolution and migration behavior caused by stress migration and thermal fatigue of silver thin films on flexible substrates, bending tests were conducted with different bending angles for two types of thermal tests ...

Tailored Hierarchical Porous Copper Architectures via Three Dimensional Printing and Pressure‐less Sintering for Next‐Generation Lithium‐Metal Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A hierarchical porous copper current collector is fabricated via three‐dimensional printing combined with pressureless sintering to stabilize lithium metal anodes. The interconnected architecture lowers local current density, guides uniform Li deposition within pores, and suppresses dendrite growth.

Impact of stress-induced precipitate variant selection on anisotropic electrical properties of piezoceramics

open access: yesNature Communications
Precipitation hardening has been recently validated as a new mechanism for domain wall pinning and mechanical loss reduction in piezoelectrics. While anisometric precipitates have high pinning strengths, there is limited knowledge about the electrical ...

Thermomechanical Fatigue and Creep–Fatigue Interaction of Inconel 718 Additively Manufactured by Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Thermomechanical fatigue tests of laser beam powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB) Inconel 718 show that the additively manufactured material reaches almost the lifetimes of conventionally‐rolled material under no‐dwell conditions. Introducing dwell times at the maximum temperature markedly reduces the lifetimes due to pronounced grain boundary sliding associated

Partial Discharge Inception Voltage Monitoring of Enameled Wires under Thermal Stress over Time

open access: yesEnergies
Electrical insulation is a critical component in electrical machines. The performance of the insulation system can be adversely affected by operating conditions that induce aging. Assessing the impact of environmental stresses is essential for predicting

Modeling and electrical-resistance feedback control of SMA actuators adapting to load disturbance

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2017
Ti-Ni based Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) actuators have been used for robots because of their high power-to-weight ratios, easiness of simple ON-OFF driving, and flexibility.

Contribution of Kaon component in viscosity and conductivity of hadronic medium

open access: yes, 2018
The two-point correlation functions of kaonic viscous stress tensors and electro-magnetic currents have been calculated respectively to estimate the contributions of the strange sector in the shear viscosity and electrical conductivity of hadronic medium.

Four‐Point Bending Tests at High Temperatures on Commercial MgO‐C Refractory Bricks with and Without Recyclate Considering Different Carbon Contents

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Four‐point bending tests are conducted in an argon atmosphere on commercial MgO‐C brick grades with and without MgO‐C recyclate from room temperature up to 1300 °C. No detrimental effect of the MgO‐C recyclates on bending strength is found. Instead, a decisive influence of the total carbon content is observed, with lower total carbon contents ...
