Intensity modulation of cutaneous electrical stimulation
European journal of pain supplements, 2006Chronic pain research is increasingly focused on the neuroplastic mechanisms underlying subjective pain experience. The latter is often measured using reported pain intensity, e.g. using a numeric rating scale (NRS). Evoked Potentials (EPs) reflect the cortical representation of applied stimuli and are experimentally used for observation of neural ...

Electric Rainfall Intensity Sensor
Journal of Applied Meteorology, 1978Abstract An instrument having a logarithmic response is described that continuously measures rates of rainfall over the range 0.3–350 mm h−1 by determining the electrical power required to evaporate the water as it arrives on an exposed sensor. Laboratory calibration experiments illustrate characteristics of the instrument, and field tests show ...

CONROLLED PHYSICAL AND SUBJECTIVE INTENSITIES OF ELECTRIC SHOCK
Psychophysiology, 1964ABSTRACTA series of investigations was conducted to determine which physical parameters must be controlled to deliver constant electrical stimulation and the effect of controlling these parameters on subjective estimates of shock intensity. Constant voltage and constant current stimulation were tested with eight waveforms and five electrode ...

Optical generation of intense picosecond electrical pulses
IEEE Journal of Quantum Electronics, 1972Electrical pulses, 4 A in 10 psec, have been generated by rectification of 1.06-μm pulses in LiTaO3: Cu++. Their amplitude and duration were measured by photographing the birefringence induced by the pulses propagating along an electro-optic transmission line illuminated transversely in a Pockel's cell arrangement.

Electrical discharges and intense vortices
Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. A. Mathematical and Physical Sciences, 1984Abstract In this paper we consider the axisymmetric flow field generated in a semi-infinite viscous incompressible fluid by an electric current discharge in the presence of a line vortex which coincides with the axis of the discharge. The system is supposed to be bounded by a fixed plate which is perpendicular to the line vortex.

The Drive-Level of Different Intensities of Electric Shock
The American Journal of Psychology, 1958The investigation of many psychological problems requires the manipulation of the level of a drive, and preferably one that is variable along a single dimension and by intervals with known properties. This paper describes a method of selecting a set of electric shocks for this purpose and it presents data to illustrate its efficacy.

Transthoracic electrical impedance in anaesthesia and intensive care
Resuscitation, 1978Pulmonary fluid accumulation plays an important role in the development of post-traumatic pulmonary insufficiency. Yet initially diagnosis may be difficult. The measurement of transthoracic electrical impedance was used to detect early pulmonary fluid overload.

Conformational changes of polypeptides in intense electric fields
Biopolymers, 1973AbstractEmploying a simple “all or none” statistical theory, a calculation is given of the phase diagram in electric field–temperature space for the helix–coil transition of a polypeptide with nonpolar residues but charged end groups. The principal results are (i) the transition field extrapolated to absolute zero is on the order of millions of volts ...

Effects of High Intensity Sound on Electrical Conduction in Muscle
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1954Studies carried out on the curarized, excised biceps muscle of the hind leg of frog (Rana Pipiens) demonstrate that under appropriate ultrasonic dosage (frequency of one megacycle) the action potential response of the muscle can be permanently reduced or completely blocked.

Intensive Electrical Convulsion Therapy in Acute Mania
Journal of Mental Science, 1947It would seem that the overwhelming success of convulsion therapy in depressive syndromes has retarded recognition of the use of this treatment in states of excitement. Little has been written in this country on E.C.T. in mania, and apart from a report that the condition is refractory and frequently relapses, there is scant guidance on the subject. The
