Electrodynamic magnetic suspension-models, scaling laws, and experimental results

IEEE Transactions on Education, 2000
A simple experiment illustrating the principles of electrodynamic magnetic suspension is described and test results are given. A disk-shaped coil made of insulated copper magnet wire and energized with 60 Hz AC line voltage is levitated in a stable equilibrium position above a wide aluminum plate.

Active damping control for electrodynamic suspension systems without mechanical transducers

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 1996
In this paper an electrodynamic suspension system for maglev vehicles is analysed, in which the active damping of the vertical oscillations is obtained without position, velocity and acceleration transducers. The damping effect is accomplished controlling the supply voltage of the damping coil to respond to current changes due to vertical oscillations.

Dynamic analysis of a 7 degrees of freedom non-linear electrodynamic suspension system for a hyperloop pod

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part C: Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science
Hyperloop is a concept that efficiently enables high-speed travel. When travelling in a railway system, main forces that slow down are wheel friction and aerodynamic drag.

A Novel Vertical Active Damping System for the Superconducting Electrodynamic Suspension

IEEE transactions on intelligent transportation systems (Print)
The superconducting electrodynamic suspension system has many advantages such as no active control, large clearance, and small weight, but its insufficient vertical damping is a problem that needs to be solved. A novel design of the active damping system

Equivalent Simulation and Measurement for the Electrodynamic Suspension System Based on the Dynamic Circuit Theory

IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement
This article proposed a novel method to investigate the electromagnetic forces between the onboard superconducting coils (SCs) and the ground coils of the electrodynamic suspension (EDS) system. This method used the idea from the mathematical model based

Partial Force Calculation and Structural Strength Analysis of Null-Flux Coil for Superconducting Electrodynamic Suspension Train

IEEE transactions on applied superconductivity
The superconducting electrodynamic suspension train has advantages such as a large suspension gap and a high lift-to-drag ratio. Its ground coils are made of ironless hollow windings laid along the track. Due to the strong magnetic field generated by the

Electro-optic observations of electrodynamic band formation in colloidal suspensions

Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. A. Mathematical and Physical Sciences, 1990
In static and low-frequency electric fields, colloidal particles in suspension tend to associate into ‘strings’ or ‘pearl chains’ along the field lines. A phenomenon has been observed in which, under long duration alternating electric fields, colloidal particles in aqueous or conducting media exhibit an electrodynamic instability in which they gather ...
