Permeability and Porosity Estimation by Electrofacies Determination
1994Low-permeability seals associated with abnormal pressures are most commonly identified by examining vertical pressure profiles and noting the depths at which a major change in the pressure gradient occurs. Alternatively, zones of very low permeability that may act as fluid seals may be identified on the basis of core analyses and well tests.

Petrophysical Rocks: Electrofacies and Lithofacies
2014Many years ago, the classification of sedimentary rocks was largely descriptive and relied primarily on petrographic methods for composition and granulometry for particle size. The compositional aspect broadly matches the goals of the previous chapter in estimating mineral content from petrophysical logs.

A Fuzzy Model Integrated with Electrofacies Characterization for Permeability Prediction
Energy Sources, Part A: Recovery, Utilization, and Environmental Effects, 2013A new integrated model of statistical pre-treatment and fuzzy logic is developed to predict unknown permeabilities from well logs. The log treatment based on factor analysis and clustering characterizes statistically electrofacies that are the input variables of fuzzy logic.

3-D Electrofacies Model, Safaniya Reservoir, Safaniya Field, Saudi Arabia
Middle East Oil Show, 1993ABSTRACT The Safaniya reservoir is the main producing reservoir in the Safaniya Field, the largest offshore oil field in the world. It lies within the Wasia Formation of Middle Cretaceous Albian age, and was deposited in a fluvial dominated deltaic environment.

Nigeria Annual International Conference and Exhibition, 2011
Abstract In static and dynamic reservoir modeling, results have shown that the quality and accuracy of the models are dependent on the quality of rock and fluid property inputs e.g. facies, porosity, hydrocarbon saturation, permeability, net sand etc. used in creating the models.

Automation of Electrofacies Identification - A Case for Digitalization
SPE Nigeria Annual International Conference and Exhibition, 2018Abstract The 21st century is a period of rapid advancement in technology and the ever adapting and perhaps proactive companies will be the companies of the future. Advancement in science and in this case 3D reservoir modelling requires the automation of repetitive and mundane tasks to liberate human resources for evaluations and actual ...

Petrophysics – The SPWLA Journal of Formation Evaluation and Reservoir Description, 2023
Electrofacies using well logs play a vital role in reservoir characterization. Often, they are sorted into clusters according to the self-similarity of input logs and do not capture the known underlying physical process. In this paper, we propose an unsupervised clustering algorithm based on the concept of dynamic programming, in which the underlying ...

Simple Quantitative Characterisation and Grouping of Electrofacies in Shaly Sandstone Formations
SPE Nigeria Annual International Conference and Exhibition, 2017Abstract Electrofacies modelling, which includes identification and grouping, is a critical part of reservoir characterisation. Because it governs the estimation and distribution of key rock and rock-fluid properties, the electrofacies model, to a large extent ((if augmented with core-derived information), determines the quality of ...

Regionalized classification of electrofacies utilizes the statistical relationships between laboratory determined hydrologic properties and field-measured geophysical properties to estimate spatial distributions of porosity, permeability, and diagenetic characteristics. The method, illustrated with an application to the St.

Electrofacies analysis for coal lithotype profiling based on high-resolution wireline log data
Computers & Geosciences, 2016The traditional approach to coal lithotype analysis is based on a visual characterisation of coal in core, mine or outcrop exposures. As not all wells are fully cored, the petroleum and coal mining industries increasingly use geophysical wireline logs for lithology interpretation. This study demonstrates a method for interpreting coal lithotypes from ...
