Implementation of the electrohydrodynamics’ perfect dielectric model in OpenFOAM® [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
The electrohydrodynamics’ (EHD) perfect dielectric model was added into computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software OpenFOAM® in order to improve its usability for the EHD field and specifically for the mentioned model.

Advances and Perspectives in Graphene‐Based Quantum Dots Enabled Neuromorphic Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Graphene‐based QDs are zero‐dimensional carbon nanomaterials with pronounced quantum confinement and tunable electronic structures. Herein, we summarize their synthesis strategies and functionalization methods, and highlight their functional roles and operating mechanisms in devices, as well as recent advances in neuromorphic electronics. We anticipate

Pyroelectric Tweezers for Handling Liquid Unit Volumes

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, 2020
Liquids are the primary environments in which chemical, physical, and biological processes occur. Considering a liquid bridge as liquid unit volume (LUV) element, it is highly desirable to develop reliable tools for handling such volumes.

Electrohydrodynamic Pumping in Microsystems

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2011
The electrical manipulation of fluids in microsystems has many existing and potential applications. This chapter reviews five different ways of electrohydrodynamic actuation in microdevices. First, we describe the basic equations of Electrohydrodynamics in the microscale, providing some basic concepts of electrical conduction in liquids.

Time-dependent electrohydrodynamics of a compressible viscoelastic capsule in the small-deformation limit

open access: yes, 2016
A theoretical analysis of the time-dependent electrohydrodynamics of a viscoelastic compressible capsule, characterized by the two-dimensional Young's modulus and surface viscosity, is studied in the small-deformation limit.

Computational Studies on the Transient Electrohydrodynamics of a Liquid Drop [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This study aims to gain a detailed understanding of the transient behavior of solitary liquid drops in electric fields at finite Reynolds number. A front tracking/finite difference method, in conjunction with Taylor-Melcher leaky dielectric model, is ...

Photo‐Gated Corona Microfluidics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Photo‐gated corona microfluidics decouples optical programming from electric‐field actuation to enable reconfigurable manipulation on open, electrode‐pattern‐free surfaces. Near‐infrared irradiation locally melts paraffin, creating a reversible charge‐relaxation pathway that reconstructs the electric field.

A Compact, High‐Performance, and Deformation‐Resilient Trielectrode Electrostatic Soft Pump for Soft Robotics

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2025.
Existing soft pumps often require tradeoffs between performance and compatibility with soft robotic systems. The proposed trielectrode electrostatic soft pump addresses these limitations through an innovative driving mechanism. Its design, which includes a trielectrode configuration and the use of compliant materials, improves operational efficiency ...

Frequency response in surface-potential driven electrohydrodynamics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Using a Fourier approach we offer a general solution to calculations of slip velocity within the circuit description of the electrohydrodynamics in a binary electrolyte confined by a plane surface with a modulated surface potential.
