Inhibition of Electrolyte Oxidation in Lithium Ion Batteries with Electrolyte Additives

open access: yesElectrochemical and Solid-State Letters, 2009
The incorporation of additives designed to sacrificially react on the surface of cathode materials in lithium ion batteries has been investigated. Addition of low concentrations of either 2,5-dihydrofuran or γ -butyrolactone to 1 M LiPF6 in 1:1:1 ethylene carbonate/diethyl carbonate/dimethyl carbonate improves the capacity retention of Li/Li 1.17Mn0 ...

Electrolyte Additive Enabling Conditioning-Free Electrolytes for Magnesium Batteries

ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, 2018
Most electrolytes for rechargeable Mg batteries require time-consuming conditioning or precycling process to achieve a fully reversible Mg deposition/dissolution, which hinders the normal operation of Mg batteries. This study details a simple and effective method for eliminating this conditioning behavior using heptamethyldisilazane (HpMS) as an ...

Additive and electrolytic coloration of NaF

Applied Physics Letters, 1974
It is shown that well-characterized F and M centers can be introduced into NaF crystals by both additive and electrolytic coloring techniques. This success is attributed primarily to a substantial elimination of hydroxyl-ion contamination.

Electric field modulation in tissue electroporation with electrolytic and non-electrolytic additives

Bioelectrochemistry, 2007
Electroporation, cell membrane permeabilization with short electrical field pulses, is used in tissue for in vivo gene therapy, drug therapy and minimally invasive tissue ablation. For the electroporation to be successful, the electrical field that develops during the application of the pulses needs to be precisely controlled.

Effect of Additives in an Electrolyte on Mechanical Properties of Electrolytic Copper Foil

Volume 1: Advanced Packaging; Emerging Technologies; Modeling and Simulation; Multi-Physics Based Reliability; MEMS and NEMS; Materials and Processes, 2013
The effect of additives in electrolyte on mechanical properties of electrolytic copper foil was investigated. Bis-(3-sulfopropyl)-disulfide disodium salt (SPS), animal protein of low molecular (PBF) and hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC) were added in electrolyte as additives. The additive amount of SPS was changed in this study.

Enhanced Electrolyte Utilizing Fluorocarbon Additives

ECS Meeting Abstracts, 2014
Perfluorocarbons, the main component of artificial blood, have been investigated as additives for lithium oxygen battery due to their ability to absorb significant volume of oxygen. They are expected to increase the amount of oxygen dissolved in the electrolyte and therefore decrease the polarization during discharge.
