Raman Spectroscopic Identification of Oxide Phases in a Corroded MgO–Steel Composite Anode Used in Aluminum Molten Salt Electrolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Micro‐Raman spectroscopy is applied to characterize corrosion products in a recycled‐based MgO–316L steel composite anode after molten salt electrolysis. A depth‐dependent Fe–O/Fe–Al–O layer sequence of magnetite, hercynite, and an Al‐doped magnetite transition zone is identified.

The effect of short-range interaction and correlations on the charge and electric field distribution in a model solid electrolyte [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
A simple lattice model of a solid electrolyte presented as a xy-slab geometry system of mobile cations on a background of energetic landscape of the host system and a compensating field of uniformly distributed anions is studied.

Resistance Rapid Heating of Aluminum Coatings in an Extreme High Vacuum–Adequate Atmosphere for Hot Stamping

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The subject of this work is the development of a corrosion‐protective coating on steel sheets for form hardening. Rapid heating in an extreme high vacuum (XHV)‐adequate atmosphere is a useful method to prevent oxidation during alloying of 22MnB5 and aluminum to obtain a metallurgical bonding.

Anisotropic Lattice Models of Electrolytes

open access: yes, 2002
Systems of charged particles on anisotropic three-dimensional lattices are investigated theoretically using Debye-Huckel theory. It is found that the thermodynamics of these systems strongly depends on the degree of anisotropy.

Electrolytes at spherical dielectric interfaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
A variational theory is developed and applied to study the properties of dielectric spheres immersed in a symmetric electrolyte solution. In the limit that the radius of the sphere becomes much larger than the Debye screening length, the system reduces ...

Electrolytic Damage in Zirconia Electrolytes

open access: yesECS Proceedings Volumes, 2003
Yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) electrolytes, subjected to high current densities, develop significant damage. This paper characterizes the damage that develops from the anode side, in YSZ used in an oxygen pump configuration. The damage is in the form of vacancy loops, precipitates formed on dislocations, pore development, and grain boundary fracture.

Interaction of MgO Recyclate‐Based Cermet Anode With KF‐AlF3‐Al2O3 at 800°C During Laboratory Scale Aluminum Molten Salt Electrolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A carbon‐free, as‐sintered MgO–steel cermet anode, fabricated via cold isostatic pressing using MgO–C refractory recyclate, was evaluated under laboratory‐scale K‐cryolite electrolysis at 800°C. Operation at this reduced temperature, combined with the electrolyte's limited electrical conductivity, led to an increase in cell voltage.

Toward Low‐Consumable Anodes: Process Simulation and Prospective Life Cycle Assessment of NiFe2O4‐NiO‐Ni‐Cu vs. Prebaked Anodes for Aluminum Production with use of Molten Salt Electrolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐consumable nickel ferrite‐based anodes for the Hall–Héroult process are compared with conventional prebaked carbon anodes using thermodynamic simulation and prospective life cycle assessment under contrasting future electricity system pathways from 2025 to 2050.

Highly Regio- and Stereoselective Hydrogermylation of Fluorinated Alkyl Propiolate

open access: yesSynOpen, 2019
The selective introduction of fluoroalkylated vinylmetals in controlled strategies is a challenging process for many chemists. This study reports the highly regio- and stereoselective synthesis of functionalized vinylgermanes bearing a perfluoroalkyl ...
