Bioelectrical Interfaces Beyond Excitable Cells: Cancer, Aging, and Gene Expression Modulation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The investigation of biological conductivity has evolved from its classical foundation based on ionic fluxes underpinning cardiac and neuronal excitability to a multifaceted regulator of cellular physiology. Traditional approaches for probing electrical events in living matter focused largely on action potentials recording.

A magnetic fluid actuator using electromagnetic force

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics, 1989
In this paper a new actuator that uses magnetic fluid is proposed. The new actuator uses electromagnetic force driven by a solenoid coil, which is controlled by the electric current of the coil. Theoretical and experimental results confirm the feasibility of the actuator.

Hybrid Magnetoactive Soft Elastomers: Material Development Toward Application in Diaphragm Pumps

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Hybrid magnetoactive soft elastomeric membranes are developed by combining two different types of magnetic particles. The membranes exhibit distinct mechanical, magnetic and thermal properties owing to the unique characteristics of the two magnetic particles.

Transducers Across Scales and Frequencies: A System‐Level Framework for Multiphysics Integration and Co‐Design

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Transducers convert physical signals into electrical and optical representations, yet each mechanism is bounded by intrinsic trade‐offs across bandwidth, sensitivity, speed, and energy. This review maps transduction mechanisms across physical scale and frequency, showing how heterogeneous integration and multiphysics co‐design transform isolated ...

Chemically Doped Conductive Polymers for Wearable Health Monitoring

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Among conductive polymers, poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS), polyaniline (PANI), and polypyrrole (PPy) are the most studied and applied. Chemical doping significantly boosts intrinsic conductivity and mechanical robustness.

Fault Monitoring and Diagnosis of Actuators in Electromagnetic Valve-Train Based on Neural Networks Optimization Algorithm

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
In order to realize fully flexible variable valve lift and improve the intake efficiency of the engine, a new electromagnetic valve-train (EMVT) was designed to replace the traditional CAM in the engine valve-train.

Stabilization of large space structures by linear reluctance actuators [PDF]

open access: yes
Application of magnetic forces are considered for stabilization of vibrations of flexible space structures. Three electromagnetic phenomena are studied, such as: (1) magnetic body force; (2) reluctance torque; and (3) magnetostriction, and their ...

Multi-Parametric Extremum Seeking-based Auto-Tuning for Robust Input-Output Linearization Control

open access: yes, 2014
We study in this paper the problem of iterative feedback gains tuning for a class of nonlinear systems. We consider Input-Output linearizable nonlinear systems with additive uncertainties.

Analysis of an Electromagnetic Actuator with Permanent Magnet

open access: yesAdvances in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, 2006
The paper deals with an electromagnetic actuator with permanent magnet. Starting from solution of its mathematical model we determined its basic operation parameters and characteristics. The theoretical analysis is illustrated on two typical examples whose results are discussed.
