Electromagnetic wormholes and virtual magnetic monopoles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We describe new configurations of electromagnetic (EM) material parameters, the electric permittivity $\epsilon$ and magnetic permeability $\mu$, that allow one to construct from metamaterials objects that function as invisible tunnels.

Planar Solid‐State Nanopores Toward Scalable Nanofluidic Integration Based on CMOS Technology

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We present a scalable silicon‐based fabrication strategy for planar solid‐state nanopores to enable their integration with complex nanofluidic systems. Prototype devices demonstrate normal voltage‐current characteristics, good noise performance, and appreciable streaming currents. Our CMOS‐compatible fabrication process offers precise geometric control

A physical model for the calculation of the corona onset voltage gradient of AC spacers

open access: yesIET Science, Measurement & Technology, 2023
By correcting the photon area factor (PAF) to suit the structure of the spacer and redefining the effective ionization region of the process of negative corona onset, a physical model for the calculation of COG of AC spacers is established.

Interaction between Molten Al‐Killed Mn–B Steel and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐temperature interactions between low‐sulfur Al‐killed Mn–B steel and MgO–C refractories (0 and 50 wt% recyclates) are studied via finger immersion tests (1600 °C). Surface‐active elements influence infiltration. MgO/CaS layer forms, along with spinel and calcium silicate.

Atomic-level direct imaging for Cu(I) multiple occupations and migration in 2D ferroelectric CuInP2S6

open access: yesNature Communications
CuInP2S6 (CIPS) is an emerging 2D ferroelectric material known for disrupting spatial inversion symmetry due to Cu(I) position switching. Its ferroelectricity strongly relies on the Cu(I) atom/ion occupation ordering and dynamics.
