Effects of Ionizing and Non-Ionizing Radiation on Animal Physiology and Behaviour: An Interdisciplinary Review

open access: yesKashmir Journal of Science
The radiation affects animals differently based on their kind, intensity and animal biology. Direct impairment of DNA and weakening of the immune system and an augmentation of oxidative stress may be produced by ionizing radiation like X-rays and gamma ...

Droplet size spectrum, velocity, angle and flow rate of pulse‐width‐modulated spray nozzles with adjuvants

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Optimizing PWM performance requires not only appropriate duty cycle selection, but also careful choice of adjuvant formulation tailored to each nozzle type. Drift control agents increased droplet size and reduced fine droplets, mitigating PWM‐induced variability. Decreasing the duty cycle consistently narrowed the spray angle.

Automated Lawn Maintenance: An Agronomic and Operational Review of Turf Health, Biodiversity, and Field Performance

open access: yesJournal of Field Robotics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Grass mowing is one of the most resource‐consuming activities in green maintenance, whether in private areas such as home gardens or in public spaces like urban parks. In recent years, concerns related to climate change, human health, and sustainability have become increasingly prominent in green maintenance, leading manufacturers and industry

Potential Impacts of Low Flows on Fish Foodscapes and Production in a Braided River

open access: yesRiver Research and Applications, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Changes in river discharge affect the physical composition and connectivity of habitats which, in turn, may shape the spatial distribution of fish food abundance, accessibility and quality—the ‘foodscape’—of river ecosystems. However, the influence of river flows on fish foodscapes has received very little attention from scientists. We studied

Against Pointillisme about Mechanics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
This paper forms part of a wider campaign: to deny em pointillisme. That is the doctrine that a physical theory's fundamental quantities are defined at points of space or of spacetime, and represent intrinsic properties of such points or point-sized ...

Using phenology to improve invasive plant detection in fine‐scale hyperspectral drone‐based images

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
Using drone‐based hyperspectral images of mixed temperate successional forests collected over a growing season, detection algorithms were produced for three invasive species of interest, which are not only invasive in Virginia but also much of the U.S.: Ailanthus altissima (tree of heaven), Elaeagnus umbellata (autumn olive), and Rhamnus davurica ...
