SC-triggered plasma waves observed by the Akebono satellite in the polar regions and the plasmasphere [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Plasma wave phenomena associated with sudden commencements (SCs) were analyzed based on observations conducted with the Akebono satellite, which has been collecting data for more than 13 years (since March 1989). Simultaneous plasma wave observation data

Electromagnetic ion cyclotron waves observed in the plasma depletion layer

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 1991
Observations from AMPTE/CCE in the Earth's magnetosheath on October 5, 1984 are presented to illustrate 0.1–4.0 Hz magnetic field pulsations in the subsolar plasma depletion layer (PDL) for northward sheath field during a magnetospheric compression. The PDL is unambiguously identified by comparing CCE data with data from IRM in the upstream solar wind.

Resonance of Low-frequency Electromagnetic and Ion-sound Modes in the Solar Wind

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
Parker Solar Probe measurements have recently shown that coherent fast magnetosonic and Alfvén ion-cyclotron waves are abundant in the solar wind and can be accompanied by higher-frequency electrostatic fluctuations.

Inertial range turbulence in kinetic plasmas

open access: yes, 2007
The transfer of turbulent energy through an inertial range from the driving scale to dissipative scales in a kinetic plasma followed by the conversion of this energy into heat is a fundamental plasma physics process.

The nonlinear coupling of electromagnetic ion cyclotron and lower hybrid waves in the ring current region: the magnetic storm 1-7May 1998 [PDF]

open access: yesNonlinear Processes in Geophysics, 2004
The excitation of lower hybrid waves (LHWs) is a widely discussed mechanism of interaction between plasma species in space, and is one of the unresolved questions of magnetospheric multi-ion plasmas. In this paper we present the morphology, dynamics, and

Numerical Solutions of ideal two-fluid equations very closed to the event horizon of Schwarzschild black hole

open access: yes, 2012
The 3+1 formalism of Thorne, Price and Macdonald has been used to derive the linear two-fluid equations describing transverse and longitudinal waves propagating in the two-fluid ideal collisionless plasmas surrounding a Schwarzschild black hole.

On resonant interactions of ions with plasma waves in a reduced quasi-linear theory [PDF]

open access: yesNonlinear Processes in Geophysics, 2002
Based on quasi-linear theory (involving pitch angle scattering), the resonant interactions between ions and waves in an anisotropic multi-component plasma are discussed.

Electrostatic Wave Generation and Transverse Ion Acceleration by Alfvenic Wave Components of BBELF Turbulence [PDF]

open access: yes
We present results here from 2.5-D particle-in-cell simulations showing that the electrostatic (ES) components of broadband extremely low frequency (BBELF) waves could possibly be generated by cross-field plasma instabilities driven by the relative ...

Two‐Dimensional Hybrid Simulation of the Second‐Harmonic Generation of EMIC Waves in the Inner Magnetosphere

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
Two‐dimensional (2‐D) hybrid model is developed to investigate the second harmonic (SH) generation of electromagnetic ion cyclotron (EMIC) waves. Applying the singular value decomposition method to simulated fields, we show that the SH exhibits wave ...
