Relativistic particle motion in nonuniform electromagnetic waves [PDF]

open access: yes
A charged particle moving in a strong nonuniform electromagnetic wave which suffers a net acceleration in the direction of the negative intensity gradient of the wave was investigated.

Electromagnetic ion cyclotron waves in the helium branch induced by multiple electromagnetic ion cyclotron triggered emissions

open access: yesElectromagnetic ion cyclotron waves in the helium branch induced by multiple electromagnetic ion cyclotron triggered emissions
Electromagnetic ion cyclotron (EMIC) triggered emissions with rising tones between the H+ and He+ cyclotron frequencies were found in the inner magnetosphere by the recent Cluster observations. Another type of EMIC wave with a constant frequency is occasionally observed below the He+ cyclotron frequency after the multiple EMIC triggered emissions.

Wave Responses to Magnetosheath Boundary Motion at Saturn: Mirror Modes and Electromagnetic Ion Cyclotron Waves

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Saturn’s magnetosheath provides a natural laboratory for studying the generation and evolution of low-frequency plasma waves that play a key role in regulating temperature anisotropy and mediating wave–particle interactions.

High density constraint on the entropy instability [PDF]

open access: yes
The entropy instability squared is a nonisothermal effect which is eliminated by parallel ion pressure at high densities (k sub z lambda sub e 1/2 sq root of m/M), reducing previous growth rate estimates and the range of unstable ...

An observation of LHR noise with banded structure by the sounding rocket S29 Barium-GEOS [PDF]

open access: yes
The measurement of electrostatic and obviously locally produced noise near the lower hybrid frequency made by the sounding rocket S29 Barium-GEOS is reported.
