Transient skin effect in power electronic applications

open access: yesThe Journal of Engineering, 2019
This study describes transient electromagnetic phenomena in electrical conductors that are connected to modern power electronic circuits and therefore subjected to current controlled pulses with fast rise times and high peak current ratings ...

Interaction between Molten Al‐Killed Mn–B Steel and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐temperature interactions between low‐sulfur Al‐killed Mn–B steel and MgO–C refractories (0 and 50 wt% recyclates) are studied via finger immersion tests (1600 °C). Surface‐active elements influence infiltration. MgO/CaS layer forms, along with spinel and calcium silicate.

Theoretical evaluation of radio noise and audible noise in transmission lines

open access: yesRevista Facultad de Ingeniería Universidad de Antioquia, 2005
One of the most important effects in transmission lines (TL) is the corona effect, which is the cause of related phenomena like radio noise (RN) and audible noise (AN).

Common approach to solving SGEMP, DEMP, and ESD survivability [PDF]

open access: yes, 1977
System Generated Electromagnetic Pulse (SGEMP) and Dispersed Electromagnetic Pulse DEMP) are nuclear generated spacecraft environments. Electrostatic discharge (ESD) is a natural spacecraft environment resulting from differential charging in magnetic ...

E-B Mixing in T-violating Superconductors

open access: yes, 1998
We analyze time reversal violating processes of the p-wave superconductor. The Landau-Ginzuburg effective action has an induced T-violating term of electromagnetic potentials which resembles the Chern-Simons term and causes a mixing between the electric ...

Reduction of Oxide Inclusions During the High‐Frequency Welding of Steel via a Nonthermal Ar/H2 Plasma Jet

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐frequency (HF) welding of steel is limited by oxide inclusions that degrade weld quality. This study demonstrates, for the first time, the integration of a nonthermal Ar/H2 dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma jet into HF welding. Local plasma treatment provides effective shielding and in‐situ oxide reduction, resulting in markedly fewer and ...

The effect of earth tides as observed in seismo-electromagnetic precursory signals [PDF]

open access: yesNatural Hazards and Earth System Sciences, 2009
Studies on the effect of earth tides in triggering earthquakes (EQs) had a great progress in recent years, which has provided convincing evidence of earth tides in EQ triggering.
